Thursday Doors- Our Lady of Lourdes Church

There are several interesting and old building in Colusa, CA. so, while I had some free time I thought I’d visit a couple for Thursday Doors.
The first one I found was Our Lady of Lourdes Church with its beautiful bricks, arched windows, lovely steeple, and pretty red door complete with pretty street lamps.
I couldn’t find much about this building’s history other than it was erected in 1880-1881, and
“this historical marker is listed in this topic list: Churches & Religion. A significant historical date for this entry is October 12, 1900″.~ from their website. https://www.hmdb.org/m.asp?m=17492

Thurs. Doors-The Brown Building

Last week while birding we made a stop in Maxwell, CA. to try to find a rare bird that has been making his home in Maxwell for nearly 5 winters now. I shared that beautiful bird the Vermillion Flycatcher in this post back in 2016.
We found him again and I will be sharing his picture in a future post, but since this is a post about doors let’s get to the door. On the way out of town I stopped to make an image of this door and building. I loved the turquoise door, and the Mission yet maybe art deco style of the building.
I got a bonus door in the back right with that garage door too. 😀
I began searching for any information about the building online, but I came up empty so I reached out to the Colusa County Chamber of Commerce to see if they knew anything about the building GB-Brown or Brown the person. They kindly forwarded my email to John Morton a Colusa County Historical Researcher. He got back to me really quick and asked for a photo of the building which I sent him. It wasn’t long before he replied with this information about the building,
“The building was built in 1910 and used very little as a horse stable before being converted to a car garage owned by George Blench Brown, B – August 6, 1869 Missouri & D – August 18, 1941 in Colusa County, Ca. He is buried in the Maxwell Cemetery. The Maxwell Fire Department named their station for Marion James Brown, late Fire Chief for the station for many years. He is also the son of George B. Brown.
I don’t know the current owner of the building, you will have to go to the Assessor’s Office, give them the address and they will help you. Your right, it’s not a Historical Building. There are three plaques on three different buildings in Maxwell. Maxwell is a town, no city council, no police dept, patrolled by the county sheriff. In fact, the founder of the town, George Maxwell is buried in the Colusa Community Cemetery, so when he passed away, there was no cemetery in Maxwell.

Whatever Weds. An Evening in Soho…

Hello, and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
It feels like an age since I last posted. If you follow me on Instagram you know that I was in London for most of the Christmas Holiday. That’s why I wasn’t posting or commenting on your posts.
On New Year’s Day, we have a family tradition of eating Hot Dogs, sausage, and sauerkraut for luck. I skip the Hot Dogs, as I don’t care for them, but sausage is good! I made it a mission to find a place to eat our traditional meal on New Years Day. I employed Yelp to aid me in finding a good place.
I thought a German place would do the job and found Herman Ze German in the Soho district. I created a Hot- link for you so you can see their menu. See what I did there? 😜It was wonderful! We all had their Chili Brats which is a beef brat, we had fries and a really good German beer the man taking our order recommended. It was Augustiner Munchen Helles bier. It was so good. Unfortunately, we can’t get this particular beer here in the States. Did I take any photos of my food? NO! I forget to do that all the time, but I did take a picture of the beer label so I could look for it here at home but, I haven’t uploaded it, so on the image score for that meal- Total Fail!
After having our “good luck” meal we headed toward our hotel on foot. We did a lot of walking while in London.
While walking through the Soho we stumbled across Chinatown where I did snap this image. Oh, look there’s a crane for Dan, and Lanterns for Joey! 😀
We’re home, and I’ve still got to get the Christmas decorations down and put away and catch up on all the laundry. I hope your New Year is off to a great start!

The sunset colors were stunning the other night and luckily He-Man and I were out for an evening walk in the neighborhood when I admired not for the first time this lovely corner green door with a wreath and the gorgeous sky above it. I had to snap a photo for Thursday Doors!
