National Bird Day 2017

My photo friend Jan Timmons over on flickr pointed out that today is National Bird Day 2017.  You know how much I like birds so, to honor them on their special day here are some of my favorite birds. I made these images all in California during 2016.

and last but, not least our National Bird in the U.S.A. the Bald Eagle- Adult.  I’m so happy this bird is making a comeback in California.

My 2016 Favorite Images

Copyright ©2016 Deborah M. Zajac. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED

I’ve spent a bit more time whittling down my 2016 favorite images and I’ve got it down to 30 now.

Since there are so many still I thought I’d share those with you via a slideshow.  This is my first slide show here on WordPress.  I need to find and install a different slideshow plugin. I don’t really care for the slideshow controls and caption on my image. 😦  But, it was pretty idiot proof to use, and I am a pretty talented idiot when it comes to computers, programs, and software in general.

I hope you like the images.  Feel free to let me know which are your favorites.

I really have to give a “SHOUT OUT!” to my family for giving me so much free time. I was able to put this together a lot faster because they were on vacation and playing with #1 Grandson a lot. That really freed me up to cook, clean, and sort through thousands of images.

Update: I’ve linked this post up with Jim Goldstein’s annual “Best of xxxx” Photography Blog post. To see all the incredible photographer’s and their favorite images of 2016

2016 Top Ten Most”Viewed” Images on Flickr

As we approach the end of 2016  I’m looking back on the year’s images; seeing which were the most liked by others, which images I love, which techniques failed,  or succeeded, and falling in love all over again with the places I’ve visited, and the people I met during the last year.

I made thousands of images in 2016 whittling them down to just 10 isn’t easy when I love so many, and divorcing myself from the emotional aspects of making the images and being purely objective is hard!

While going through my images I also took a look at my 2016 Top Ten most viewed images over at my Flickr site. Since those are easier to get to I thought I’d share those images with you again this year.  Most of these you’ve seen before if you’ve been following my blog this year. Voici!

1) Sunset Martin's Beach Half Moon Bay

2)Horsetail Fall 2016

3)Dawn in Manhattan

4)

5)Radio City Music Hall

6)Allen's Hummingbird Male

7)Swanson Creek Cascade

8)eyelashes-to-die-for_dmz1066

9)Anna's Hummingbird Female perched on a branch

10)Vermillion Flycatcher

Voila! The Top 10 2016 Most Viewed Images on my Flickr site.

I’ve whittled  down my favorites of the year down to 35. Getting that number down to 10-15 is my next task and I’ll share those images soon!

I hope those that celebrate Christmas had a lovely Holiday, and those celebrating Hanukkah are having a great one so far, and I hope we all have a fantastic week!

Thursday Doors 51/52

Since this week’s Thursday Doors falls during Christmas week I thought I’d share some doors that are decorated for Christmas.

N°2259- Blue light special

N°2259

N°4925 The stained glass window pane has a whale in the sea theme.  I love this stone wainscoting that is popular around my area now.

N°4725

…and N°4758- my front door. It’s a bit sparse these last few years. After He-Man ruptured his Patella Tendon he wasn’t able to get up on a ladder to hang the Christmas lights.  I’m not one of those people that keep their Christmas lights up all year, but let me tell ya…these last few Christmas’s we’ve missed the lights!

This year He-Man has seen great progress with his knee recovery. He can climb a short ladder, and he can stand up in the saddle. A BIG DEAL for a Cyclist who rides up mountains.   However, since our home remodel the gables are higher than our ladder and he feels it’s still too high for him to climb, and we need new hooks all around the front of the house. I don’t know how to do that. I can’t even hammer a nail in straight, so we’re going without lights for the time being.  Maybe next year.

N°4758

Beginning Friday I don’t anticipate being online very much. Big Baby Boy, and Dark Haired Beauty are arriving Friday evening for Christmas.   Baby Girl, and #1 Grandson are staying home for Christmas. YEAH!

I’m done shopping but I haven’t begun to wrap, and I need to begin cooking for Christmas dinner.

For those of you celebrating Christmas I wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas!  Hanukkah begins the 24th I think. Happy Hanukkah to those of you who celebrate that!

If you don’t celebrate Christmas enjoy the season, the lights, the joy, and good cheer that comes with the season, and I wish you a wonderful week-end!

Belted Kingfisher-Female

Copyright ©2016 Deborah M. Zajac. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED

After several years of trying to get a decent image of a Belted Kingfisher I finally got one yesterday while out birding with Gordon and other friends in the Pacific Flyway.   I was birding in the refuge rich area north of Sacramento, CA.  They asked me to show them around the place and I was eager and happy to do it.

I’m sure Gordon will share many of his images too.

Belted Kingfisher

It was an amazing day of birding. We saw so many great birds. Most notable were the Belted Kingfisher, a Bald Eagle, American Bittern, Ring-necked Pheasants, Hawks, Falcon, Ibis, thousands of Snow Geese, some White Fronted Geese, northern pintails, shovelers, Egrets, Blue Herons, Night Herons, Sparrows, Wrens, Goldfinches, Hummingbirds, Warblers, maybe a Thrush of some sort. Need to work on getting an ID on it.

There were quite a few more types of birds seen. We even saw some other wildlife; skunk, deer, and hares, but for me getting this image means no more agonizing over all the butt shots, missed shots, blurry in flight shots, and how very skittish they are! 🙂 I finally got the shot!! 🙂

This one was quite content to sit on this branch looking at the pond below her while keeping an eye on us too. It was a gift!

Can you see me doing my “happy dance”? Yeah, I’m still dancing. 🙂 We had a GREAT day of birding.
