I went up North to Lassen National Park with a side trip to a Lavender Farm, and a fabulous waterfall with good friends.  We were hoping to shoot the Full Moon, and later shoot the Night Sky since we’d be in up in the mountains and away from light pollution. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had a different idea. As the afternoon wore on the clouds got thicker, and darker.

On the bright side… It was Spring up in the high country: the Lupine was in full bloom, and the sunset was gorgeous.

This is Lake Helen…very low, but it’s still gorgeous.  I said they miss named this Lake because what you really can’t see here is the water is a lovely inky blue.

Shortly after this image was made there was lightning to the southeast! We rarely see it here so we chased it. It was fun!

I’ll be catching up with all you did this past week, and sharing more from my week-end in upcoming posts.

The view of Clear Lake from the second floor of the Inn I spent the night in.  It was just about 5:15am when I made this image. It was so quiet, peaceful, and not cold.

Playing in a Rain Puddle

I woke up to light rain and started planning to take 2 yrs 3 month old #1 Grandson out as soon after breakfast as I could get him fed, dressed and in his new raincoat, and boots. It was finally time to break them in dancing in some rain puddles while on our walk. We didn’t get too far from the house before we found a huge puddle.

He-Man came out to watch and made an iPhone video. Here’s a 15 second look at how much fun he was having.

He was having so much fun! Despite all the rain gear he was soaked to the skin when we finished. I was soaked from the knees down. I dumped about a cup of water from each of his boots when taking them off.  We got cleaned up, and dressed in warm dry clothes then he had a second cup of warm cocoa and I a cup of tea and soon he fell fast asleep. Dreaming of running through rain puddles no doubt.

It was a gorgeous sunny day in Yosemite. In February! The little bit of snow we had up here last week from the 3 day storm has all melted.

The meadows are brown, and dry since there has been very little rain, and next to no snow this year, but

I gotta tell ya…no matter what time of year it is or the conditions, this view never gets old!

Waning Crescent Moon and Saturn over Vasona Lake

Copyright © 2015 Deborah M. Zajac ALL RIGHTS RESERVED

I usually check out the sky first thing when I wake up so, this morning when I raised my blinds and saw the Moon with Saturn shining in the cloudy sky I realized they would be lining up high over the lake, and footbridge.
So, I got dressed, grabbed a quick cup of tea, and slice of toast and headed to the lake.

It was still dark when I arrived. The Geese weren’t even up yet! I kept my eye on the sky and clouds. It didn’t look too good when I got down to the lake. The Moon was completely blocked by the clouds, but I hoped for pockets, and breaks and just after dawn the clouds cleared enough.

I used a wide angle lens to be able to capture this whole scene so the Moon, Saturn that little white dot to the right of the Moon, and the fainter Antares below the Moon to the right are really teenie.

I was thrilled there was color this morning too.

This is a single frame processed in Photoshop CS6.

Palace of Fine Arts- San Francisco

The Palace of Fine Arts San FranciscoI rose at 3AM this morning to head up to San Francisco to make some images. I was hoping for pockets in the fog to see the Moonset, or have thick fog in the bay so I might get the fog/ Golden Gate Bridge image I have in my head, but I struck out on both counts this morning. I couldn’t see the moon anywhere, and the pocket in the fog was in the bay with no fog at all on Golden Gate Bridge.

Trying to make lemonade out of lemons I made this image.  I’ve shot this location several times both at night and in the daylight, but not in the “Blue period” so, at least it’s a bit different from the images I’ve made before.

I need a nap. I hope you have a wonderful week-end! 🙂
