Hope

We’ve had a stormy few days here in the San Francisco Bay Area with welcome rain.  In between breaks in the storm I headed to the coast for sunset.  The sun broke out of the clouds for a short time bathing Lighthouse Point, and W. Santa Cruz in glorious sunshine.

Monochrome Madness 2 52/52 Close Up

This is the last post for Monochrome Madness 2 as well as the completion of my one year commitment to participate in it. It’s been a lot of fun, and at times challenging. I’ve learned a lot about what images work in Black and White better than others.

This week is also our Theme Week which is Close-up.  The last 3 annual Imaging Projects I’ve done I’ve completed the project with an image made with one of my Mascots, and I didn’t want to break the streak .

Here’s Woody wishing Monochrome Madness 2, and all its participants a “Happy 2nd Anniversary!”  Congratulations everyone for completing the year!

Thank you Leanne for hosting this fun annual imaging project this past year. I appreciate all the work you do to make it happen!

For Leanne Cole’s MM2 this week I present another image from last Saturday’s photography adventure at Martin’s Beach with one of my favorite Meet-Up groups which I talked about and shared the sunset image here.

I mentioned that we had changing weather; going from very thick clouds, and no sun, to the sun breaking out, and then the fog rolled in.  I made this image as the fog was beginning to recede.

The seascape here with the rocky shore, and surf is beautiful, and haunting at the same time.

Can you imagine a Galleon Pirate Ship sailing past this rocky shore hoping to evade detection and the rocks? 🙂

Monochrome Madness 2 49/52 Natural Bridge

I was over in Santa Cruz on Saturday photographing Hummingbirds then thought I’d head over to Natural Bridge Beach to do some long exposures since there was wind, and storm clouds on the horizon.

I used my 6 stop B+W Neutral Density filter to create this image. I wanted to retain some

movement in the waves rather than completely smooth it out.  It’s moody and just what I wanted.

But, I also tried some longer exposures with both a 6 stop and 3 stop ND filters on. Here one of those images.

It’s a subtle difference , but a wee bit smoother than the image above.

Monochrome Madness 2 48\52 Silos

I am loving Silos at the moment, and wish I was a little closer to the central valley or countryside where there are more of them.  In the right light I think they’re really interesting and tell wonderful stories.

These silos are located in Sacramento Valley where a lot of rice is grown.

I added a border with the curly edges because it reminded me of the old black and whites

from my childhood, and I thought it worked for this image.

This is my entry to Leanne Cole’s Monochrome Madness 2 this week. The first week of the month is Theme Week and since we had Curves last month it made sense for her to pick Straight for this month.

This image is one I made last week-end while in San Francisco.
