Flowers and Knee Update

Copyright ©2017 Deborah M. Zajac. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED

While taking it easy and resting my knee from last Fridays fall while hiking I’ve been going through flower images from this Spring, and having a lot of fun photographing the bouquets my daughter and I received for our birthdays, and Mother’s Day.

I took one big blossom…I’m not sure what it is; a Dahlia? Anyway, I took it out in backyard and stuck it in my little Asters one afternoon and photographed it with my LensBaby Composer Pro and Soft Focus Optic.

I love this swirly blur!

My knee is still tender, and a little swollen, but the limp is nearly gone.  It’s time to go to the fabric store to find a knee patch for my hiking pants.  I haven’t had a knee patch since I was a girl, but I hate to give up a favorite pair of hiking pants for a little rip in the knee.

I also signed up for two online watercolor classes. I’m previewing the classes now so I can purchase any materials I don’t have but will need, and have a look at what I’ve taken on. I’m planning to do these during summer so will start them in June.  One class is on birds, and the other landscapes.

Big Baby Boy and his Dark Haired Beauty are coming home for the long week-end.  We’re going to have Baby Girl’s Birthday Dinner since we missed that this year because she and #1 Grandson were on vacation.  I’m pretty sure she’s chosen Mexican food, and we’re planning to BBQ on Monday. He-Man bought Tri-tip and burgers.

I’m off to get my photography, and art stuff put away and tidy up the retreat for Big Baby Boy, and Dark Haired Beauty then do the rest of the grocery shopping for the week-end.  I’ll be mostly offline over the week-end, but will catch up with you all next week!

I wish you all a wonderful, and safe week-end!

“I have left my bed and walked upon the grass and the night dew has wet my feet and the hem of my garment. Here I stand under the blossoms of the almond tree, heeding the call of your spirit. ”

Went I laid in the grass to photograph the dew and rain drops in the grass yesterday morning I thought of these lines from Kahlil Gibran’s prose Communion of Spirits.

I hope you all have a sunny Friday and week-end  both in your spirits and weather!

MM2:3 Self Portrait

Copyright ©2015 Deborah M. Zajac. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED

For Week 3 of Leanne Cole’s Monochrome Madness I have chosen to submit an image that I made this week that was really hard for me to make for another challenge. A Self Portrait. Although I’m a very vain woman making images of myself isn’t something I do. I am very self-conscious and awkward in front of the camera. I feel  like I’m not photogenic. But, I’m a stubborn gal and once committed I will do what I can to fulfill the commitment even if I don’t post the work.

With time running out already in March I decided I had to pull up my boots, straighten my collar and get to work! So, while out-of-town photographing wild flowers I made several self portraits nearly killing myself tripping over the Basalt Lava rocks on Table Mountain to beat the 10 second timer then while at home on Sunday I thought I’d make a more formal type self-portrait.

Straightening my collar and gettin’ her done.  🙂 So, Hello! It’s me. Wrinkles, an all.

UPDATE on the RUFF! I read  a sad report on a birding forum that the Ruff was seen on the shore in its favorite corner of the salt pond this afternoon, but it has been wounded! The writer said blood was showing on both legs, and when it lifted its wings there was a wound under the wing. Speculation is the Falcon or Harrier that was seen there yesterday and this morning may have nicked it, his opinion is that the wound is fatal! Hoping that it will be rescued and nursed back to health.

Daybreak in Santa Clara Valley

Daybreak Santa Clara Valley

I woke up wide awake just before 4AM and before I could talk myself out of a morning “stretch my legs” hike I got up, dressed, ate, and left the house and headed to my lonely tree on the “Steep Hill” overlooking Santa Clara Valley.

Once I got to the top of the hill I set up my camera and took a few images of Blue Period and the little bit of color that was in the sky looking East, and then I heard to my right an Owl Hooting its morning greeting. It wasn’t too long after that the Blue Jays, and Sparrows started their morning songs, and two ladies came up over the top of the hill stretching their legs too with an early morning hike. We chatted a few minutes then they continued up the hill.

I waited for the Sun to crest the Diablo Mountain Range, but just before it did and during the Sun’s rise the colors grew in intensity, and splendor.  All the while the Owl and birds continued their morning salutations. It was glorious!
Just a few minutes after this the colors began to fade so, I packed up my gear and hiked up to the tippy top of the hill then headed home for another cup-a-tea.
