P52 43/52: Golden Gate Sunrise

I rose this morning at 2:40am to be on time to meet with a group of Photographers at 5:00am in Marin County to photograph the Sunrise over San Francisco Bay, and Golden Gate Bridge. We hoped for fog on the deck of the Golden Gate Bridge, but it looked like there wouldn’t be any fog rolling into the city when we met, but as we waited for others in the group to arrive the fog began to creep in.

Once the group assembled we drove over to Battery Spencer in the Marin Headlands to shoot. Then several of us broke off from the group to move higher. We drove up to Hawk Hill and photographed the rest of Blue Hour, Dawn, and the Sunrise from there.

The fog never did make it to the bridge, but the colors, and light of the sunrise this morning was glorious. Well worth the O’Dark Thirty wake up call.

He-Man bought a bag of Sweet Potato & Beet Chips early in the week, and I’ve been snacking on them since.

The colors are the colors of fall; deep purple, and orange. My favorite of the two are the Sweet Potato chips, they’re crunchy, and salty/ lightly sweet, the beet chips are chewy, but tasty. I just wish they were crunchy.

P52 39/52 Banded Garden Spider

Banded Garden Spider I can’t say positively this is a Banded Garden Spider since I didn’t see its top side. It’s web was huge! I found this spider on the side of the house when I went over there to turn the wagon around for #1 Grandson. The Spider was in the middle of its orb shaped web which spanned from one side of the fence to the house wall on the the other side; over 4 ft!  The spider itself was about 2 inches long. Its head pointed down.

#1 Grandson was fascinated with this spider so he kept going back to see it all afternoon.  Later we tried to identify it, and learn about them.  By the size and position of this spider I’d say it’s a female. I didn’t notice a male anywhere.

Project 52 38/52 Kinder Chocolate Bars

The best things about traveling are meeting new people, learning new customs, hearing new languages, and trying new foods; especially desserts, and candies. While wandering around the shops in Cozumel recently I found these little chocolate bars called Kinder. We don’t have them where I live so bought a box of 8 bars to bring home.

They’re little pillows of milk chocolate with a soft milky filling. It’s tasty! I’m glad they’re small bars!

Gleaned from the trail while on my “stretch my legs” hike up the Steep Hill and beyond.

P52 37 of 52 Acorn Caps and Oak Leaves

This week has been a “red letter” one for me hiking up the Steep Hill. I made it to the top without stopping both times I hiked up the hill this week! It’s an 11% grade up to the top where my Lonely Tree is growing. See some trail images of the Steep hill here.

I think going up all those stairs last week while on the cruise ship paid off. 🙂

P52 36/52 Cannonball Flower

I’m back from a great vacation. He-Man and I went on a Western Caribbean Cruise for his 60th Birthday.

One of the Ports of Call was Roatan, Honduras. We visited Gimbalimba Park while there and that’s where I was introduced to this amazing flower and tree.

P52 36 of 52: Canonball Tree FlowerThe tree grows to be 50-70ft tall, and produces fruit that are about the size and shape of cannonballs-hence it’s common name. Its proper name is Couroupita guianensis. 

The fruit is edible but, is smelly which puts people off of eating it, and after the fruit comes the flower.  The fruit grows directly from the trunk which is unusual. Unlike the fruit, the flowers smell wonderful, and are used to make perfume, and cosmetics. The Hard shell of the fruit is sometimes used for containers.
