Dawn from the outer edge of a freshly mowed corn field waiting for the Sandhill Crane Fly-out.
It was a very peaceful, easy morning…until the Geese woke up.
Good grief they’re a noisy bunch!
After a full day of photographing Fall color in Hope Valley, California 7 of us stayed the night in South Lake Tahoe and planned to shoot in the area on Sunday too. We met for dinner at Riva Grill on the Lake. I was craving a steak after smelling the delicious hamburgers a camper was grilling for lunch at one of our stops, and at Sorenson’s Resort the aroma of grilled steak was perfuming the air when we all met there at 5PM.
So I ordered the bacon wrapped Filet Mignon, garlic mashed potatoes, and fresh steamed asparagus. The wine we shared was a 2010 Toasted Head Cabernet Sauvignon. I ate the whole filet and asparagus and left the mash potatoes. I did taste them…they were okay. The wine was great the company superb!

The decommissioned Space Shuttle Endeavour made the last leg of her tour across the United States in the San Francisco Bay area. I headed north to Mountain View, CA to catch a glimpse of her.
After leaving San Francisco she headed south to Moffet Field.
I first spotted her as she was flying over the big hanger at Moffet Field.
There were quite a few folks here with me, but not the 1000’s of people who were over at Moffet Field.
The traffic on the freeway beside this building crawled and stalled. The Highway Patrol came by with a bull-horn warning people on the freeway not to pull over and to
keep moving or face a fine and ticket. The little dirt lots around this building filled up with spectators.
It was really neat to see her fly by. The crowd cheered! I got goosebumps. What a wonderful history she’s had, and the shuttle program has been a remarkable accomplishment in the history of our Space Program. It is sad to see it end. I hope the Space Program continues on its journey with new adventures and exciting discoveries in the future.
Quote from Willie Nelson’s song Mama don’t let your babies grow up to be Cowboys.
…but I’ve always liked cowboys.
This was taken on an impromptu stop at Columbia State park last year. This part of the state is rich with history and folklore. Cowboys being a big part of that folklore.
Columbia State Park was once a town that sprung up during the California gold rush. It was declared a National Park or Open Air Museum in 1946. About 30 buildings remain. Some of which are the Saloon, the Wells Fargo Express, the Pioneer Emporium, Black Smith, hotel, the bakery, and stable. You can take a Stage Coach ride and pan for gold here. The staff all dress in period costume. I’ve been here a half-dozen times and loved every visit.

Today is the Golden Gate Bridge’s 75th birthday. There’s going to be a party with fireworks shot right from the bridge tonight. The crowd is going to be BIG! I decided to stay away from the city, and not fight the traffic in and out of the city.
So instead of posting a historic photo or two shot tonight of the Golden Gate Bridge with Fireworks I’ve decided to honor the birthday by sharing a few photographs of the GGB that I’ve taken the last few years.

It’s a beautiful bridge to shoot day or night, and one I’ll never tire of photographing. I hope to photograph it many more times before its 100th birthday!
I needed to get up and move so went over to the hills nearby and hiked all 3 Peaks today.
Click on the link above for my hiking stats and a map of my route.
Here are a few photos I took along the route. I didn’t take my big camera today. No, instead I went armed only with an iPhone. I did miss my big camera when a Hawk came soaring over my head.
The hike was lovely. The hills around my valley are still green and lush. The peak across the valley with the trail leading to the top is Hunter’s Point. I hiked up to it last today.
There were quite a few wildflowers in bloom throughout the park like this Yarrow. There were oodles of Monkey Flower, and there was clover, Nightshade, Lupine, and oh so many Crimson Columbine! I’ve never seen so many before. I
took 3 photos and all came out blurry. It was breezy. I hope to get back again before it’s all faded. On the back slopes of Hunter’s Point there were a few Poppies, and lot’s of Spring Vetch. It’s a good time to go looking for wildflowers.
There were young girls on horseback talking with their trainer about upcoming competitions, and the sound of the horses hooves clip-clop was lovely. One horse even said “hello” to me.
