Thurs. Doors- The Eagle Little Library

Last week He-Man wanted to break in his new car with a little road trip to the seaside. Santa Barbara, CA. was where he wanted to go. We did some kayaking, birding and a lot of walking. One of the places we birded was Santa Barbara Botanical Garden. The trails are great and while we in the Backcountry section of the garden we came across a Little Library. It’s an Eagle named Nest where you’re invited to enjoy reading while in his nest. I loved it!

This is the coolest Little Library I’ve ever seen.

Thursday Doors- 2024 Leftovers

These are doors I saw during 2024 that I didn’t manage to share plus one a friend sent me that he thought I’d like and he was right, I do!

Through the thicket I spied this old barn and there are doors on that old van too.

Another barn. This is one of the last images I took in 2024. I spied this barn while doing the Christmas Bird Count in my county on the 29th of December. It was a very cold, windy, rainy, snow flurries day so my partner and I only saw 23 species during our time out. I loved the Copula door. I imagine Owls using it.

Fishy Door. Every door had a fish over it. I’d bet money who ever lives here fishes.

A Red Shed that could use some TLC.

This is the door(s) to the laundry room at a favorite campground.

This is the door a friend sent me that he saw while in London and thought of me. Isn’t it gorgeous! Doesn’t the portico look like it’s made of cherry wood?

That’s it for my 2024 doors. I hope 2025 has lots of interesting doors in it for us all.

I’ll start with Coventry Cross Church.

From Florida Quaker Steak and Lube has to be here. I loved the door pulls the most.

Speaking of door pulls I have to include the door my friend in CT sent me from her visit to Gillette Castle with its unique door pull and beautiful door.

Oh, the beautiful turquoise door/gate must be included in my favorites for the year.

I have more favorites than I thought I did for this year.

Thursday Doors-Christmas Doors

This week we’re sharing favorite Christmas Doors. I went up to Carson City to photograph and see the Governor’s Mansion display of lights.

Here’s a closer look at the doors, well as close as I could get.

After viewing some of the lights downtown I stopped in Scoup’s a local Ice Cream and Soup cafe for a bowl of soup and saw this door hanging on the wall.

Next week we’re sharing favorite 2024 doors then we’ll have a break until next year.

Something for Sunday- First Snow in the Valley

I woke up Friday morning pretty early to go birding with a group I’m in. When I opened the garage door to leave I discovered there was snow on the ground and flurries still swirling.

I was heading about an hour northeast from home so, I checked my email to make sure they hadn’t canceled the outing…they hadn’t so off I went.

It wasn’t snowing when I arrived at the meeting spot but, while birding the snow started to fall pretty heavy. It wasn’t in the weather forecast the day before! It was still a good morning of birding. We saw 22 species of birds. One White-crown Sparrow favored us with a nice look perched on snowy grass.

By the time we left it had quit snowing so my drive home was easy, and while the snow was sticking to the ground where I was birding it hadn’t had home. The upcoming 10 day forecast looks like we’re snow free.

Friday’s Feathered Friends-Birds!

It’s been awhile since I shared any birds so I’m going to share several I saw while in Florida this past September. It was a fantastic trip. I saw 21 new to me birds aka “Lifers”. I won’t share all of them in this post. 😊

A Magnificent Frigatebird. This was the first time I’d ever seen it in the United States. I have seen it in Mexico before.

And a White Ibis

Aren’t they great? I’m still excited to have seen them.

How’d you all do with the time change for those of you in states and places that end Daylight Savings Time? How many clocks did you have to reset? We have 8 clocks we needed to change including the thermostat and our cars. I’ve been waking up earlier than normal so back to my natural rhythm at last!
