MM2/9 Fences

It’s Theme Week over at Leanne Cole’s Monochrome Madness 2! Yes, we’re doing Fences. This is a fence in my neighborhood. I love the worn, distressed paint on its slats, and the beautiful Roses peeking out.

MM2-8 FencesI used my LensBaby Composer Pro with the Soft Focus Optic @ f/4, and the 8mm Macro Converter to make this image. My Composer Pro is living on my camera (Nikon Df) this season!

To see all the fabulous contributions to this week’s MM2-9 head on over to Leanne’s site here.

MM2-8: Reticulated Giraffe

We took our little guy (#1 Grandson) to Oakland Zoo over the week-end. It was so much fun watching his face light up seeing the animals. He loved the Giraffes, and Chimpanzee’s. The Lions and Tigers were hiding in the shade so we didn’t see them this trip.  Here’s one of the young Giraffes who didn’t mind standing out in the sun.

MM2:3 Self Portrait

For Week 3 of Leanne Cole’s Monochrome Madness I have chosen to submit an image that I made this week that was really hard for me to make for another challenge. A Self Portrait. Although I’m a very vain woman making images of myself isn’t something I do. I am very self-conscious and awkward in front of the camera. I feel  like I’m not photogenic. But, I’m a stubborn gal and once committed I will do what I can to fulfill the commitment even if I don’t post the work.

With time running out already in March I decided I had to pull up my boots, straighten my collar and get to work! So, while out-of-town photographing wild flowers I made several self portraits nearly killing myself tripping over the Basalt Lava rocks on Table Mountain to beat the 10 second timer then while at home on Sunday I thought I’d make a more formal type self-portrait.

Straightening my collar and gettin’ her done.  🙂 So, Hello! It’s me. Wrinkles, an all.

MM2-1 “Whenever you wear your hat, your day will be special”~Margo Nickel

I’m going to participate in Leanne Cole’s Monochrome Madness 52 project this year. I’m a little apprehensive, and unsure if I’ll be able to complete all 52 weeks, and produce good work, but I’m going to try!

Yesterday a photographer friend of mine Dali, a colleague of his, and myself went up north to San Rafael, CAto photograph the last Frank Lloyd Wright commissioned building before heading to San Francisco for the Chinese New Year Parade.

The building is the Marin County Civic Center building. I was shooting the escalator when this woman came down the stairs so, I quickly recomposed to make this image.

Need to work on: I wish I had slowed the shutter speed down just a touch slower though. I wanted her to have a bit more motion blur showing movement. I’ll have to practice more street photography to get better at ICM and people blur.

I have a few more images from the Marin County Civic Center Building, and lots from the Chinese New Year Parade I’ll be sharing soon.
