The bridge has new lights! It’s a temporary art piece by Artist Leo Villareal. I went up to the city with a group of photographers to photograph it. It is pretty. I’m planning to photograph it again while the lights are still up.

Tonight a friend and I went out to try and photograph PanStarrs the Comet that is passing through our hemisphere right now. I couldn’t see it with my naked eyes until the last few minutes I was shooting. Prior to that I was shooting on faith that I had it in my frame. When I thought I had I was so excited, but I really was happy when I got my frames uploaded and saw it.

We have another chance to see it tomorrow night as viewing promises to be good as well.

A little information about PanStarrs-
Discovered in June 2011, comet 2011 L4 (PANSTARRS) bears the name of the telescopic survey that discovered it — the less than mellifluous sounding "Panoramic Survey Telescope and Rapid Response System" which sits atop the Haleakala volcano in Hawaii.

"Since its discovery a year-and-a-half ago, observing comet PANSTARRS has been the exclusive dominion of comet aficionados in the Southern Hemisphere, but that is about to change. As the comet continues its well-understood and safe passage through the inner-solar system, its celestial splendor will be lost to those in the Southern Hemisphere, but found by those up north." ~ NASA

I’ve wanted to shoot my tent under the stars for about a year now. Last night the opportunity arrived. It’s not the shot I’ve imaged, but it was good practice and a great learning experience. As always there are a couple of things I’d do differently, but overall I like this shot.

I had a lot of fun hanging out with like-minded photographers last night, and I hope to do more shoots like this as the weather gets a bit warmer.

I’m so excited he came so much faster than I was told to expect him! He’s so cute I splurged and bought one for an early birthday present.

I saw this one in Moss Landing.
I’m not sure if this is a Curlew after looking at my bird book and reading the description of the Whimbrel. Anyone know for sure?
