MM2-8: Reticulated Giraffe

We took our little guy (#1 Grandson) to Oakland Zoo over the week-end. It was so much fun watching his face light up seeing the animals. He loved the Giraffes, and Chimpanzee’s. The Lions and Tigers were hiding in the shade so we didn’t see them this trip.  Here’s one of the young Giraffes who didn’t mind standing out in the sun.

Vasona Lake Sunset

It’s been a couple of months since I’ve been over to the lake so I thought with clouds in the sky this evening it might be worth a trip over. Most the people were packing up their picnics, toys, kids, or were hauling all their stuff out when I arrived so, it was really quite and peaceful in my spot.

A couple of times while I waited for the color in the sky a duck would splash down. That was the most noise I heard.  Then the sky started turning pink. It was a lovely way to end the day and week-end.

Beware of the terrible tiger,
You don’t always know when he’s near,
But his eyes shine like lights
In the blackest of nights,
And his growl makes you tremble with fear!

MM2:7- Wild Rose and the Bee

I dug into my earlier 2015 Hiking files for the weekly contribution to Leanne Cole’s Monochrome Madness 2. Nothing I made images of this week worked out well in Monochrome/Black & White.  I’m so glad we have the option of color today because for me somethings just don’t work as well in Black and White. 🙂

This is a new wildflower for me. I think it’s beautiful.  There were a few other new ones for me on today’s 5.5mile hike.
I’m wiped out! The hills were rolling, but steep.

I’m trying to keep things as normal as possible to keep myself from collapsing. My Mother in Law died suddenly on the 15th in the wee hours of the morning.  He-Man and my son flew back to PA. this morning. I’m at home taking care of # 1 Grandson while Daughter has to return to work. This loss will be hardest on my daughter.MIL and Daughter had a bond…one I wish I had with my daughter. They talked about everything, and trust and “got” each other.  This is the first loss of this magnitude my children have experienced. It’s really hard.

Allan is daughter’s BFF- guy friend. He’s fabulous. Daughter and he have been friends for years. #1 Grandson loves him, and I’m so grateful he’s here when she needs him most.  He’s a keeper…not just a “fair weather friend”. I’m so grateful Daughter has him now and I hope forever.

The next few weeks will be hard on us. I know we will soldier on, but  I could really use your prayers, and positive thoughts right now.
