Or barely seen and hanging on door and a bonus shutter door.
I’ve photographed this building several times since moving to No. NV.
Every time I go birding around this area this little cottage or storehouse calls me. I know nothing about it other than it’s an unused building on a ranch next to a place on my birding rotation.

more to come…
Old, weathered, decaying, windows and doors are my favorite. This cottage looks like it belongs somewhere else … Iceland or Ireland maybe!
It does doesn’t it. Thank you so much, Denise!
It has a lot of character. I can see why you are drawn to it, Deborah. We have an old shed/laborer’s hut nearby that I photographed a while back before it finally collapsed. It still might be photo-worthy.
There is something decidedly more intriguing about it after a good look at it. I can see why you’re drawn to it. Hugs.
Thank you so much, Teagan! I think it would make a cozy little cottage for someone. It’s held up really well. Even the roof has been cared for so maybe there’s plan for it someday?
Nice pic! I love to look at abandoned buildings.
Thank you! I do too. 🤣
I recently saw a video of a couple who bought a run-down, abandoned farmhouse, and in 15 minutes that condensed 1.5 years of work they turned it into a magnificent home. As I saw this photo, I couldn’t help picture it 1.5 years later as a thriving home for someone (more DIY than me, clearly 😀 )…
I love those kind of shows! I think this building would make a great little cottage.
You and me both. It’s funny, because it’s hard to describe what’s so alluring about the show, but I just couldn’t stop watching it 🙂
I know. I’m hooked on those home improvement shows and some cooking ones too. You just can’t look away! 🤣
I can see why the building calls you!
Thank you so much, Jennie!
You are welcome, Deborah.
That looks like an excellent subject for a photograph, and a great place for birds to hang out too! Good iPhone shot.
It can be birdy. Unfortunately, not the day I went. Thank you so much, John!
Needs a nude in the doorway. Like a Weston photograph.
LOL!
Oh if only the door could tell the stories.
Right! I bet there would be loads of fascinating history and events they know and could share. 😃
Thank you for stopping by to see the door, Rebecca!
Wonderful shot! I just love old stone buildings and any old wood and rust on/around one! The stories they could tell!
Thank you so much, Donna!
So mysterious!
It is! I wonder what it was used for? Thank you so much, Patricia!
Great photo… and you took it with an iPhone 14 Pro? Interesting
I did! I just got this new phone in February so I am still getting used to the camera. There’s some moire on the roof but I will try different angles and settings to see if I can minimize that going forward.
such a wonderful mood and could almost feel a tumbleweed about to roll (the birds near this structure must be fun to capture)
Thank you, Yvette! I have seen some neat birds before on this day not so much. It wasn’t birdy. There was one shy mountain chickadee that never came out for a photo op sadly.
The birds never seem to come out for me – it could be because we are in the city-ish – so I just enjoy their sounds
😃 I get that!
☀️😊
It is an interesting building and I see why you’re drawn to it. And, a nice spot for birding!
Thank you! I think I was too early hitting this spot this year. It wasn’t birdy. I’ll be going back soon and hopefully the Spring birds will be there.
Lovely building and photo, Deborah. This building was obviously well-built. Its lines seem to be straight and no sagging.
Thank you! The roof is in great shape too. Stone buildings seem to hold up well don’t they.
The foundation is key.
That’s what I tell the boys when they’re building towers with their Legos. 😃
Great advice.
I love the derelict buildings in the vastness of your state and country, Deborah. They stand so lonely and yet there were times they were full of life. It strikes some hidden sentimental snare inside me. And yes, there are places too I tend to photograph over and over again, without knowing why. I never seem to be really satisfied with the results though. So maybe it’s a quest for the perfect picture. 🙂
Thank you, Peter!
Do you think it’s because we’re seeking the image we’ve created in our mind’s eye that we keep going back? I do.😀
Charming
I wonder what the story is behind buildings such as this and understand the draw. I like the photo very much!
Thank you so much, Belinda!
I love it when we stumble onto cool buildings while hiking. This is a wonderful setting and a very nice photo. Thanks for thinking of us.
Thanks for having me along this week! 😃
Speaking of the iPhone 14 Pro, you may not know that you can select raw mode to capture more visual information than in a jpeg file. In raw mode with the 1x camera on the back you’ll get a whopping 48 megapixels, which means lots of leeway to crop and still have plenty of pixels left.

I did know and it’s why I picked this phone. I am switching between smaller files and RAW when I use the camera depending on the scene. Sometimes I am finding the camera picks for me and I need to over-ride it. I’m still figuring it out. I’ve only had the camera a few weeks now.
That was a big reason for me to upgrade from the iPhone 12. I’ve taken a bunch of 48-megapixels and have been happy with many of the results. Happy picture taking to you.
Thank you!!
One of the many joys of birding is finding unusual or intriguing sights as we frolic the countryside. Lovely photo, Deborah.
You’re so right, Jet! Thank you so much!! 😃
P.S. I bought your book Wicked Walkabout and halfway through it. I’m am enjoying it and vacillating between two characters for who did it!!
Oh so fun to hear, Deborah. Many thanks for your support and feedback.
You’re welcome, Jet! I finished it after dinner and I did the bad guy right. I moved one guy out of the mix and the kept the other one and was right.
I’m going to pick up the next book in the Anne Lamington series!
