I usually check out the sky first thing when I wake up so, this morning when I raised my blinds and saw the Moon with Saturn shining in the cloudy sky I realized they would be lining up high over the lake, and footbridge.
So, I got dressed, grabbed a quick cup of tea, and slice of toast and headed to the lake.
It was still dark when I arrived. The Geese weren’t even up yet! I kept my eye on the sky and clouds. It didn’t look too good when I got down to the lake. The Moon was completely blocked by the clouds, but I hoped for pockets, and breaks and just after dawn the clouds cleared enough.
I used a wide angle lens to be able to capture this whole scene so the Moon, Saturn that little white dot to the right of the Moon, and the fainter Antares below the Moon to the right are really teenie.
I was thrilled there was color this morning too.

Mornings are arriving a little later, and chillier these days and with that I’m finding it a little harder to get out of the house for a hike or walk. Once I get out I am usually very happy that I did.
This morning was especially nice as we had a lot of clouds which meant there might be some color, and I got lucky and had “God Rays” too, and there was a bonus; the sign marking the trail’s boundary is gone!
YEAH! I have spent years framing around it, cloning it out, or cropping it out. It was lovely shooting and not have to deal with it, or deal with it later in post development. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they don’t replace it, and if they do they put it somewhere that doesn’t hinder the view.

This morning I met some fellow Night Photographers for a Sunrise Hike up to Mission Peak in Fremont,CA.
A last minute change of plans to start at a different trail head took us to Peak Trail Loop. We started up at 4:50AM a bit late. We start the climb at 500ft. The Peak is just 3 short miles up and Peaks at 2517ft.
The group moved a lot faster than I did. I wasn’t going to make the Peak before sunrise so I decide to grab a shot during morning twilight or my favorite “blue period” just before dawn. This was taken just above bench #3.

I made it up to Bench #4 and took one last shot of the valley below in the dawning light. I think I’m at about 2400 ft. here. The morning was foggy, damp, and overcast as you see. This is our typical Summer pattern here in the Bay Area. Although it’s cooler than normal.

From here I headed back down to a hot cup of tea, and breakfast. I will hike this trail again and perhaps go all the way to the top next time.
