While I was at home all week-end chillin I decided to have some fun with an image and a couple of my iPhone apps.

The image itself is a wild berry blossom that I photographed in late April while out birding.

Wild berry blossom Spring

At the beginning of this month I emailed myself a copy of the image to get it on my iPhone 7+, and yesterday had a play with two of my apps.

First I distorted the image using the app Tiny Planet, then I added a couple of Textures using the app Distressed FX

Cultivated Flowers

I really like look the Textures added to the image. It looks more artistic don’t you think? Do you have a preference of one over the other?  I’m really having fun with the creative opportunities these two apps have opened up to me.

Just to let you know I’m not affiliated with either of these app companies. I bought them both with my own money, and they don’t give me anything for mentioning or using their products.  I’m just sharing the links in case you’re interested in checking them out yourself.

Oh, I used Snapseed to put on my Copyright watermark on the bottom image. I’m not affiliated with that company either.

Thank you all for your thoughts, and lovely wishes for me and my family to get well soon.  Thankfully, we’re all over the bug, and hope it doesn’t return anytime soon!

I hope you all have a lovely week!

What’s Blooming?

White Yarrow- from a quick hike Sunday morning. I went early while the wind was calm. I was the only person on the trail both going and coming. It was wonderful having the hills to myself for just a little while.

What’s Blooming?

Saturday a girl-friend and I went hiking up in the hills about an hour northeast from home. We were on the hunt for Spring wildflowers. We hiked just over 5 miles and saw so many beautiful flowers at peak bloom.

Spring and Winter Vetch, rose clover, and small head clover are abundant up there. It was lovely to see carpets of colors this year.  What to show you first? I’ll start here 🙂

This little cluster is not much bigger than my pinky fingernail. I haven’t identified it yet. It’s not in any of my reference books.  It’s a new flower for me.

After hiking downstream a mile and quarter we hiked back and headed to Little Yosemite Gorge and Fall. There are several places to stop to take photos of the little rapids; we stopped at one after going up to the Fall which was packed with kids and adults climbing over the rocks and wading in the pools at the bottom of the cascades. We didn’t spend much time there. I need to head there first next time.

Bellardia- another new wildflower on my list. I think the rains awakened  seeds long dormant. It was so exciting seeing new flowers this year.

and one last one for today…Elegant Clarkia. I haven’t seen this for several years. Isn’t it beautiful!

I went on a little hike Sunday night too and found more wildflowers. It was really windy and cold so I didn’t take too many images of the flowers. I hope to get back up there when the wind dies down.  It was a good week-end for me exercise and photography wise.  I hope you all had a great week-end, and your week has started off good too!

Lens choice reasoning- Since I would be hiking uphill, and a distance for 5+ miles I wanted to keep my gear to a minimum, because I had to carry extra water just in case. The place we were hiking didn’t have potable water, and I didn’t want to pack my water filter. I carried 32 ounces of water, my tripod, 5 filters, and my Canon 500D close up lens, my LensBaby, and a few other items I felt were necessary. Having a light weight macro lens option was my old Nikkor 28-105mm micro lens. It gives the ability to shoot both macro and landscapes which is a perfect solution for what I like to photograph when hiking.  It’s not a true 1:1 macro lens rather it’s 1:2, but with my 500D attached I can get closer to 1:1.  I realize I’m compromising image quality doing this, but with good technique, and post development I hope to make up for some of that.

Keeping my pack weight down on longer hikes is much more comfortable and enjoyable for me and worth the compromise.

Happy Easter!

I’m posting this a bit early because He-Man and I are celebrating our 35th Wedding Anniversary this week-end.  No one is more surprised than us that we’ve been married this many years.  Time has just flown by!

Table Mt. Spring Lupine in Full Bloom

Regarding this image- I made it last March about this same time when the Lupine was in full bloom up on the mesa.

Our plans for this week-end? He-Man and I  are going to celebrate us, and wrap ourselves up in each other, and nature over a long week-end.  I’ll be offline until Monday.  🙂

May  your Easter Basket be filled to the brim with goodies and love. Happy Easter!

If you don’t celebrate Easter I hope you enjoy the week-end with those you love.

New Moon, Venus, and a Very Faint Jupiter + 1 More

I didn’t venture too far for this image; just down the street. In hindsight I should have sought higher ground. Venus was setting fast and if I had been higher I might have been able to photograph longer ,so that Jupiter would have been brighter. Live and learn!

I do like the way the Moon looks, and am pleased I didn’t blow it out. 🙂

Jupiter is that teeny tiny white dot above and to the right of Venus which is the bright star next to the New Moon.

+ 1 More…

He-Man and I have been hiking every week-end together since his Dr. and Therapist gave him the okay after he ruptured his Patella Tendon and had surgery last November.  He’s really come a long way.

Today he was up for hiking the steepest, and longest hike since he was given the okay.

We gained about 1000 ft in elevation and hiked just about 5 miles. Here are several images I made along the hike.

All were taken with my iPhone 5 and developed in Photoshop CS6

Garrod Pond…when we take #1 Grandson on Pony Rides it’s at this stable, and pond that the guides walk him. I love seeing how excited he is walking the Ponies around this pond looking at birds/  in the trees for birds, and looking for ducks in the pond. His Mother says I am influencing his interests.  I can’t say I’m totally innocent or sans motive! If I am able to influence him to love nature, an his environment then I think I can take a back seat and let the young lead.

I OT: I  offer no excuses I love being a Grandma, and I’m really glad that I’m able to keep hiking,  moving my legs, and hope that I am able to for many years  to come!  I hear the secret to living a long happy, active life is keeping the legs moving.

I am going to try my best to keep moving…uphill!  The reward is going home down hill all the way baby! 🙂
