Throw out the blanket, or find a nice rock in the shade, then relax and let the perfumed breeze fill your senses with the sweet scent of Spring.
I took the above image a couple of weeks ago while hiking in Calero County Park in South San Jose, CA. I and several other photographers hiked 5.5 miles and spent 6 hours photographing wildflowers.
Here’s another one from that day…
Triteleia Laxa- or it’s common name Ithuriel’s spear. This is the first time I’ve seen this wildflower, and I found it again in Sunol, CA last Saturday!
A friend and I went for an easy hike in Sunol Regional Wilderness Saturday morning and we found these tiny mushrooms.
…and nearby along the creek where it pooled up a bit we found this lovely little bouquet of Spreading Fleabane…
I used my Lensbaby Composer Pro with Soft Focus Optic at f/4 for all the images, and for the mushrooms, and Triteleia Laxa I also used the 16mm Macro Converter. For the two landscape images I used the Wide Angle Attachment all mounted to my Nikon Df.
On this last image of the Spreading Fleabane I really like the swirling background and how much it reminds me of the Petzval Lenses.
I hope you find time to enjoy Spring this week!

It’s Theme Week over at Leanne Cole’s Monochrome Madness 2! Yes, we’re doing Fences. This is a fence in my neighborhood. I love the worn, distressed paint on its slats, and the beautiful Roses peeking out.
I used my LensBaby Composer Pro with the Soft Focus Optic @ f/4, and the 8mm Macro Converter to make this image. My Composer Pro is living on my camera (Nikon Df) this season!
To see all the fabulous contributions to this week’s MM2-9 head on over to Leanne’s site here.

Beware of the terrible tiger,
You don’t always know when he’s near,
But his eyes shine like lights
In the blackest of nights,
And his growl makes you tremble with fear!

It was a week of welcome firsts. We had the first good rain we’ve seen/had in such a long time, and my Camellia bush is beginning to blossom ringing in Fall.

Greetings Good Gents, and Ladies!
I spent Saturday at the Northern California Renaissance Faire with friends. Attending this faire one steps back in time. The language, characters, and costumes are all in keeping with the period, and patrons often attend in costume. It’s a Photographer’s playground! I get such a kick seeing the elaborate and crazy costumes. The shows are fun, and the Joust is exciting, and it’s great fun cheering on your favorite Knight.
I went gear light; only taking my D700 with my 85mm f1.4D lens, and for fun my LensBaby Composer II w/ Double Glass Optic. I took a lot of images and can’t share all of them in this post, but here are a few I took with the Lensbaby Composer Pro II.
I just passed this little plot of lovely flowers while on my way to meet friends Theresa, and Glenn- we were car-pooling to the faire. when Theresa called and said they ran into traffic and would be about 10 minutes late, so I turned around and went to take photos of these flowers. They were so cheerful on this gray, overcast morning.

I used an aperture of f11 in the LensBaby Composer Pro II, and for the portraits I used On Camera Flash using my SB910 to open up the shadows under the hats, and eyebrows. I had it in iTTL balanced Fill Flash mode, and adjusted my Flash EV t/- anywhere from +3 to -1.7 depending on the light. The light was mixed; deep shadows when under the trees, and bright light when out in the open once the morning fog burned off. My goal was to balance the Ambient light and flash without blowing out the images and looking like I used flash. How do you think I did?

One last image of my friend T’s husband. It’s Celtic Week-end at the Faire so there were lots of men in Kilts. Glenn wore his. I don’t know about you, but men in Kilts make me go week in the knees! HUZZAH!

I’m still trying to figure out how all the bits and pieces to my LensBaby Composer Pro work. I finally put my Soft Focus Optic
in and took some photos of flowers, and a few head shots of #1 Grandson who is 19 months old now. I like this pose the best of the three images I took.
I thought the pose fit Black & White best, and then I put an antique finish, and frame on it and really liked how it came out.
I’ve had the LensBaby Composer Pro for several weeks now, and like it, but I was having an issue with the Ball Locking, and the mounting lock. The Ball adjustment lock and the mounting lock both turn in the same direction and when ever I would turn the ball to change the point of focus it would also unscrew the lens. I kept remounting it, but nothing worked. It wouldn’t have that secure “snap!” when twisted into place, and I couldn’t find a little dot to line up with my white dot on my camera. Let me assure now, that I did read the manual…such as it is- multiple times. It’s a brochure that tells you how to install and remove your Optic, but there is nothing on how to mount it to your camera. As you can imagine I wasn’t happy about that set up, and it was scary thinking my lens wasn’t really secure in the mount. I was afraid it would fall off at any time.
I finally sent a message to my friend Wayne asking him what the trick to mounting the lens so it would lock in place is? Within a few minutes he told me there was tiny “Red” dot on the metal mount that I should match up with my camera. I looked at the mount and sure enough there it was! A tiny red dot on the metal mount. I never saw it before. Nikon programmed me to look for a white dot since my camera and lenses all have a white dot to line up.
I remounted my Composer Pro and got that nice “snap!” into place and locked sound. What a huge relief that is! Now I like my Composer Pro a lot more! THANK YOU WAYNE!
There’s supposed to be a dot on my Optics that you line up with the Composer Pro when installing them, but I can’t find the dots! Red or White! I’m hopeless I guess. For now I’m lining up the notches and securing my Optics that way. They’re secure in the Composer at least so, hopefully it’s right. 🙂
Here are a couple flower images I made using the LensBaby Composer Pro and Soft Focus Optic. I love this soft, dreamy look, and the OOF areas are smooth and creamy. Love it!

I’ve also got a wide-angle, and telephoto lens I need to try out. Perhaps this week-end.
