P52 14/52 Tunnel View in Golden Hour

I ventured North-east to look for Wildflowers then went into Yosemite National Park to photograph the river, and waterfalls, but couldn’t be in the park and not go up to Tunnel View. I swung by here earlier in the day to see how it looked and thought it would be a good place to shoot the sunset since the clouds were getting thicker by the hour and by 3PM Half Dome was covered in clouds.

I made two images up here a cool version using my Singh Ray LB Color filter then removed the filter and made the warmer image you see here. I’ll share the cooler image soon since I like them both.

This is all the color we got this evening. More clouds rolled in obscuring the sun and blocking any more color. By 7:40pm I was in Pearl (my car) with the heater on thawing out my very cold fingers still hoping the color would come. There were only 3 photographers set up waiting and hoping outside on the observation deck; everyone else had left. Shortly after that all the color faded completely and He-Man and I headed home relaxed, and very content.

While waiting for the sun to crest the mountain tops to the East I turned to look southwest and captured the Moon shining down on the little tree that sits atop the summit of The Steep Hill.

This place has been on my bucket list since I first passed through here back in the early 1980’s. We didn’t spend any time in the park on that trip and I’ve regretted it since. This barn has been photographed a million times I’m sure, but I had to have my turn.
This was one of the first places my group visited while in the Grand Tetons. We arrived just at sunrise and already there was quite a crowd of people here.
There wasn’t much color pre-sunrise, but once the sun crested the mountains behind me and lit up the Tetons, and the barn it made getting up early and traveling 45 minutes well worth it. I really hope I get another opportunity to return to this area.

Sunrise Oxbow Bend and Mt Moran

I took this on day 2 of my Yellowstone – Grand Tetons Trip. Usually, I would have been here an hour before sunrise waiting to see if the magic would happen. We got a late start departing from the Inn on this morning, and by the time we parked and I found this composition to shoot the sun was already cresting the mountains. . The clouds started to take on color, and the mountain peaks glowed that wonderful pink and gold we call Alpine Glow.

The river was still, the reflections crisp, and there was a fine mist hanging low over the water. Even though there were at least 75 other photographers lined up around this bend it was quiet, peaceful, and so beautiful.

Arriving at a destination just in time find my composition, set up my equipment, then have all the elements of nature come together to make it all worth while just doesn’t happen to me often. This was magical! A morning I’ll remember forever.

Fall color is in full swing there. You see some of that on the right side of the bank. I was so happy to see and photograph a little Fall Color. I don’t know if I’ll be able to make it to the Eastern Sierras this year.

If you’re finally old enough to go on a Road Scholar Trip I would do it! I had a great time, and met lovely people. I’m looking forward to my next Road Scholar trip.

I mentioned that I only had one full day to spend with Jackie so I left home the evening of the 5th and arrived at Jackie’s vacation Condo about 11PM.
Jackie showed me the bedroom I’d have, then a quick tour around the condo. It was a lovely condo. My bedroom was spacious, and I had a bathroom to myself. We chatted for sometime on the deck while taking photos of the stars then we called it a day because I wanted to rise early to get the sunrise on the lake.

Sunrise is really early here at this time of year so, I set my alarm for 4AM.
I slept in a bit, but we made it out the door and to our destination in plenty of time for sunrise.
The sky was pretty flat, but we did get some nice pinks, and light on the distant Sierra Mountain Range.

This year for my birthday I wanted to spend it photographing the Milky Way, stars, and sunset. Since I would be up all night or nearly so my family opted out. So, I joined one of my favorite Meet-up groups in Fremont Peak State Park to shoot the stars.This Sunset was the beginning of an awesome night out. The sunset was fantastically beautiful, and the sky cleared for us to get wonderful photos of the Milky Way., and Star Trails I was up on the Peak when the clock hit Midnight May 12th…my birthday. Myself and several friends shot until after 4AM. I arrived home at 9AM on Sunday morning tired, but happy. I spent the rest of the day relaxing then my family took me out to dinner for my Birthday/Mother’s Day combo.
I feel so blessed right now to have such loving and supportive family. I’m heading to bed soon. I’ll probably fall into a deep sleep as soon as my head hits my pillow.
I hope all Mom’s reading this had a wonderful day, and a great week-end!
