After several hours of birding my birding partner and I were hungry so went looking for a place fairly close by to have some lunch. We found Quaker Steak & Lube.
This is the only one in FL going by their website. We both had salads and I failed to take a photo of either of them. It was just a Caesar Salad w/grilled chicken. Instead of croutons they served it with Cheese Curds. Now, I thought that sounded gross and would probably just pick them out, but after trying one I gobbled them up! They were warm and slightly gooy and tender on the inside yummy. Mary had the Biker Chick salad. It sounded delicious too, but it was on the sweet side and I was hot and wasn’t in the mood for sweet.
The inside of the restaurant is car themed. Each wing of the interior has a small sports racing car hanging from the ceiling, and lots of car memorabilia like a dividing wall full of MAC tools for fixing cars. I went back a second time for that salad and this time He-Man was with me he said he has some of those tools. Who knew?!
Anyway, I did get photos of the exterior and the doors.

Look at the door pulls. I thought they were neat.

Most of their restaurants seem to be in OH. Do you have one in your city/state? Have you been there?

more to come…
Interesting door pulls. It’s been a long time since I had cheese curds, but I really do like them.

Very clever restaurant idea! The closest one to me is in Iowa. A bit of a stretch for a dinner date 😉 But one never knows I guess??? haha

Nice find, on an interesting place to eat. I love the image you got to the place, really shows it’s uniqueness. The gas handle doors caught mine eye too, very neat!

I felt the same way about those curds Deborah, until I had them on our last trip to Lincoln, NE. I expected something like poutine, which I absolutely can pass on. But the curds were addictive! That looks like a fun stop, rather like the Chevy’s spots all across Texas at one time.

Thank you so much, Cheryl! I’m glad you get it about those cheese curds. I’ll have to see if I can find a recipe. I’d like to try to make them once in awhile.

The recipes are easy to find. It’s getting the right cheese that is difficult. The closest thing I’ve found that will work if you can’t get good Wisconsin curds is Mexican frying cheese. It has to be a very dry cheese but still one that will melt eventually. Good luck and let me know how it goes!

I found this company that makes and ships them. Shipping is pricy, but the curds aren’t.

I’ll look at Amazon grocery as well.

I hope that works for you. It wouldn’t for me way down here.

How unusual for a company to have turned Quaker State into Quaker Steak, old service stations into auto-themed restaurants. I see from the website that none are anywhere near Texas.

Are they old Quaker State gas stations? I didn’t know that! It’s pretty cool if so.

I assumed so because Quaker Steak sounds almost identical to Quaker State, but I don’t actually know.

We have several car-themed restaurants, but not that particular one. I love the clever name, and adore the door handles! Great Thursday Doors submission!

I love the sound of cheese curds. We don’t have a Quaker Steak & Lube, on my side of the border but we do have a special cheese curd specialty in Canada. Poutine, a beloved dish from Quebec, is a mouthwatering combination of crispy french fries topped with fresh cheese curds and smothered in rich gravy. The fries are typically golden and crunchy, providing a perfect base for the soft, squeaky cheese curds that melt slightly when heated. (The curds really do squeak) The gravy, often made from beef or chicken stock, adds a savory depth, tying the dish together with its warm, comforting flavor. Poutine is not just a meal; it’s a cultural icon that embodies the spirit of French Canadian cuisine, enjoyed by locals and visitors alike. You must come to Canada!!!

I would try Poutine! It’s been decades since I visited Canada 🍁 I need to put it on my list. 😊

I had not heard of Quaker Steak & Lube before Deborah and I’m pretty sure in my country we don’t have them. But the formula sounds and looks from your pictures great fun. The door handles are neat! 🙂

I love the door handles and the photo with the gas pumps in reflection. I thnk there are some of these in western PA, but I haven’t been to one. I’d like to see the tool wall and the cars.
I’m glad to see that your mom doesn’t have to evacuate. I hope she stays safe.

Thank you so much, Dan. You probably have some of those tools as well. My mom just updated myself and siblings on their status. So far just a lot of strong winds no rain. I hope she’s right and they’ll be fine. She’s a few miles inland.

This wouldn’t be a day to visit this cool restaurant; I just saw a notice that Helene’s storm surge already is reaching Pinellas. I’ve never heard of the chain, but it’s a neat concept, and you’re right; those door pulls are really neat. Your reaction to the cheese curds was interesting, too. I’ve never had them, but they sound terrible to me. If I ever find them on a menu, I might try them.

I just heard from my Mom who lives in Pinellas Co. that they don’t need to evacuate they’re braced and ready for the wind and rain. They even have a good size whole house generator so, they’re prepared.
I’d eat that salad again and maybe even order extra cheese curds. 😊
