Anna’s Hummingbird-Female

I went over to Santa Cruz on Saturday while we had a break between rain showers to photograph Allen’s, and Anna’s Hummingbirds. It was a lovely day in the Arboretum.

There were very few people there since the weather wasn’t ideal.  While I was waiting for a male Allen’s Hummingbird to return to a favored perch I looked behind me and saw a lovely female Anna’s darting around the Ericaceae plants which is a succulent plant.

Here’s a series of 3 images that shows her approach to the plant, feeding, then resting on a perch.

I love the fresh Spring color palette in this series, and this pretty little Hummingbird.

    1. Thank you so much Myriam! I thought the same thing, and am pre thinking it. I am planning to try it.

Regarding the Hermit Thrush I posted it on instagram and think I did here. I have to look back and see. I can’t remember if I did.

        1. I hope it works out. I just purchase a new set of watercolors- Lukas 1862 Aquarell 12 half pan set. I worked up a color chart of them this morning and the magenta and greens in the set would be great for this image. Now, for some quiet time to do it! 🙂

  1. Such pretty photos! The word pretty came to mind because the pink flowers are so pink and pretty! I love the spring colors and the hummingbird is a delight! Hello Spring! I don’t know how you manage to get such amazing pictures but I am so glad I get to see them!
