My friend Dali and I went out to Merced National Wildlife Refuge last week-end and found oh, so many Snow Geese, and some Lesser Sandhill Cranes along with the usual suspects. We were photographing some of the Snow Geese and other birds in the nearest marsh when all of the sudden the noise level escalated and the birds took to the air!
The squawking, screeching, quacking, and honking was so loud you couldn’t hear yourself speak! It was pretty neat to see and hear. We’re not sure but, we think a Hawk, or Coyote spooked them.

Thank you so much Melissa! I’m glad you can hear them! The noise was incredible. I’ve read reports they’re starting to leave for the North. It’s sad to see or hear about them leaving, but I do enjoy the anticipation of having them return in the winter.
I’m so glad that you get to see them. Just think~the first people here got to see great skeins of birds in the skies like that all the time.
I hope to see great skeins of birds too one day. Eagles are returning to the area! There’s hope. Skeins. What a great word!
Isn’t it? Of course at the moment I am struggling to reduce a wild skein of yarn into a well-behaved ball, but that is another story 🙂

Yes, it is an infinity scarf. I think they are pretty cool and the book I found has some wonderful patterns in it. I will definitely share pictures when I get one done 🙂
Excellent! I can’t wait to see what color you picked for it and how it looks. I love scarves and wraps. Oddly enough I do not own an infinity scarf though.
I keep thinking the fad will pass but perhaps it won’t~they really are so versatile.
Scarves are classic pieces in the wardrobe. I’ll wear them forever. My oldest scarf is a small square one I wear tied around my neck. I got it as a birthday present when I was 14 from my teacher in church. It’s one of my treasures. 🙂 That scarf started my love affair with them.

I absolutely love a field of geese taking flight, their noise is deafening and almost surreal! 🙂 To watch them swirl in the sky and then reland is just as fun! Just watch out if their swirling over your head! heehee

Thank you so much Dan! They’re amazing creatures. Seeing them all take off, or coming in for a fly-in is breathtaking. When they’re swooping around their landing site and the sun hits their wings just right is another favorite sight of mine.
I’ve seen this with geese here in the tobacco fields, but I’ve never been able to get a good picture. I have one of some birds taking flight there, but snapped quickly form my car. This is beautiful.

Wow! What an amazing photo! I imagine they were VERY loud! Several geese fly over my house each day and I can hear them squawking inside my home. lol! 🙂
Thank you so much Jill! Your imagination is right! Add the wings en masse lifting out of the water to the noise. I forgot to mention that. It’s pretty neat. Geese have got to be the chattiest, noisiest bird! 🙂
