Waxing Gibbous Moon and Coit Tower

The Moon was 99.9% full last night and my friend Dali asked if I wanted to go up to the city and photograph it over Coit Tower. Of course I said yes!

It was breezy and chilly, but beautiful!

Moon and Coit Tower

Coit Tower:

” Coit Tower, a slender white concrete column rising from the top of Telegraph Hill, has been an emblem of San Francisco’s skyline since its completion in 1933, a welcoming beacon to visitors and residents alike. Its observation deck, reached by elevator (tickets can be purchased in the gift shop), provides 360-degree views of the city and bay, including the Golden Gate and Bay bridges.

The simple fluted tower is named for Lillie Hitchcock Coit, a wealthy eccentric and patron of the city’s firefighters. Coit died in 1929, leaving a substantial bequest “for the purpose of adding to the beauty of the city I have always loved.” The funds were used to build both the tower and a monument to Coit’s beloved volunteer firefighters, in nearby Washington Square. The tower was designed by the firm of Arthur Brown, Jr., architect of San Francisco’s City Hall. Contrary to popular belief, Coit Tower was not designed to resemble a firehose nozzle.” http://sfrecpark.org/destination/telegraph-hill-pioneer-park/coit-tower/

I was gone most the week-end so, I’m behind with emails and blogs. I’m playing catch up again. 🙂

This is my entry to Leanne Cole’s Monochrome Madness 2 this week. The first week of the month is Theme Week and since we had Curves last month it made sense for her to pick Straight for this month.

This image is one I made last week-end while in San Francisco.

Shaking out the Bedding

I spent the morning in San Francisco walking around North Beach and spent some time trying to photograph decisive moments and “street photography”. Something I’m not really practiced with.  It was fun, and challenging.

Monochrome Madness 2 30/52 Morning Light and Fog over San Francisco

For this week’s Monochrome Madness 2 I chose another image of Sunrise over San Francisco with the fog

beginning to pull back a bit. Revealing some of the taller building’s upper floors and a couple of famous buildings too.  To make this image I switched to my telephoto lens. This is a view of the South Tower of the Golden Gate Bridge, and the city behind it.

Happy Summer Solstice

Copyright © 2014-2015 Deborah M. Zajac. All Rights Reserved.

This was taken on the Summer Solstice last year (2014).

Sunrise over San Francisco CaliforniaI really wanted to meet my friend Anne and go back to this area and make another Summer Solstice image from

here, but I’ve been swamped moving out of two of our 3 bdrms. We’re down to 1 bdrm now. I fell into bed last night exhausted, and slept until 7:30 this morning!  So, I didn’t go out with my camera for sunrise this morning and am reposting the image I made last Summer Solstice.

UPDATE on our Remodel: The construction crew are planning to break into the interior walls of the Master bdrm, front bdrm, and entry hall tomorrow (Monday June 22,2015), and demolition of our Master bathroom begins tomorrow as well. He-Man and I are almost completely moved out of our room and will be using the Living room as our room. Only our bed, and a few things in the closet need to be moved out today.

Baby Girl, and #1 Grandson have moved to the back bdrm that I’ve been using as my retreat for years.

The roof of the house was extended and roofers finished laying on the new roof yesterday, two of the new windows are in, but the door they’re waiting until this week to install. It’s really pretty, has glass, and they didn’t want to risk any damage to it while framing and putting on the roof. YEAH!

Here’s how the house looked on the 18th of June.

…and this is where it came from. Day of Phase II back on April 30, 2015

Staking out the new foundation
Staking out the new foundation day 1 phase II of remodel and addition

My Summer will be largely spent in disarray, and chaos with this remodel and addition, but it will be worth all the inconvenience when it’s finished I have no doubt. Today I’m excited because we’re entering the final phases of the construction, and getting closer to having the house done.

Happy Summer Solstice Everyone!
