While out birding recently my friends Dali, Rainey, and MamaZ ; Dali and I spotted a Moorhen, but it kept ducking in and out of the reeds so I wasn’t able to get a clean photograph of it so we decided to go around the marsh once more before the light faded. Dali spotted this Sora busy hunting for food. I thought at first it was a big Sparrow, but was thrilled when I got a better look at it. This was the first time I’d seen one!

I didn’t get clear view of him. He too liked the privacy of the reeds, but at least he was close enough to get a picture of.

The migration back to the North seems to have started as there are fewer birds around the marshes we visited. I probably won’t be visiting this area again until Spring.
It was great getting together with Dali, Rainey, and MamaZ.   We even splurged on Guacamole Burgers and fries. I’m looking forward to our next get together!

I’ve been using my SB600 Speedlight quite a bit the last month; on camera most the time, but did pull out my umbrella,and stand this past week-end to soften the light. It’s been so long since I last set up my Speedlight in Commander mode for off camera use that I had to get out my manual.

Inspired by two photographer friends who have been using some really cute toys as their photographic muses recently I dug out Woody to play with. The light is pretty boring in this shot I’m afraid. I wish I was as creative as Rubbah_Slippahs, and Nikki!

I want a Danbo!

Sunday morning when I reached my Plan B location to shoot the Moonset I set up, zoomed in on Financial Dist. where the Moon would not be setting, but it looked so pretty I had to take the shot. The camera told me a 30 second exposure would be good. I took the shot, but the sky and water were totally flat. Only the city gleaming in the early morning twilight looked good. So, I replaced the sky with one I took last year, and added a reflection.

I’ve never added a reflection to the water via Photoshop before so that was a learning experience.
I used this tutorial to do that- note he moves pretty fast. I had to stop, rewind, and re-watch throughout the whole tutorial.

One of the last photos I took of the Moonset on Sunday morning. It was so pretty even a few of the early morning runners stopped, pulled out their cell phone cameras and took photos.

"All night have the roses heard
the flute, violin, bassoon;
All night has the casement jessamine stirr’d
To the dancers dancing in tune;
Till a silence fell with the waking bird,
And a hush with the setting moon."
~Tennyson

It was so quiet..as if no one dare breath while the moon set. Even the sea was calm.

Diva Dog was making a big ruckus this afternoon, going on, and on, so I had to go see what had wound her up. Outside there were two little girls walking with, I think their Grandmother. Grandma was carrying the littlest girl’s trike, and a very large umbrella. They got across the street from my house where they stopped for negotiations.
There was pointing, and looking down the street both left then right, looking back up at Grandma, and finally there was a nod from Grandma then the little girls walked into the gutter to walk through the puddle of rain washing down it.
Back and forth they walked making sure to make a big splash when they got to the deepest parts. It was drizzling pretty good then too, but they didn’t have a care in the world. Grandma was ever so patient, and such a kindred spirit. She let them play in the gutter for nearly 5 minutes.

It was delightful watching them. I had to get it on film! I raced to grab my camera then shot this through the front window. It’s terribly soft, but I love it. When was the last time you walked through a puddle?
