I’m trying to keep things as normal as possible to keep myself from collapsing. My Mother in Law died suddenly on the 15th in the wee hours of the morning.  He-Man and my son flew back to PA. this morning. I’m at home taking care of # 1 Grandson while Daughter has to return to work. This loss will be hardest on my daughter.MIL and Daughter had a bond…one I wish I had with my daughter. They talked about everything, and trust and “got” each other.  This is the first loss of this magnitude my children have experienced. It’s really hard.

Allan is daughter’s BFF- guy friend. He’s fabulous. Daughter and he have been friends for years. #1 Grandson loves him, and I’m so grateful he’s here when she needs him most.  He’s a keeper…not just a “fair weather friend”. I’m so grateful Daughter has him now and I hope forever.

The next few weeks will be hard on us. I know we will soldier on, but  I could really use your prayers, and positive thoughts right now.

Yosemite Valley from Tunnel View

Saturday last a friend (Dali) and I went to Yosemite National Park hoping there would still be snow from last week’s storm.

There was snow in the higher elevations, but not what we were hoping for. The warmer, sunny days following the storm melted a lot of it.

On the way down from Glacier Point we stopped quickly at Tunnel View because there were some nice clouds in the sky, and I liked the light on that single tree in the center, although that light didn’t translate too well in this image.  It’s okay, this view never gets old for me.

MM2-5 Watching the Total Lunar Eclipse over St. Ignatius Cathedr

For this week’s Monochrome Madness 2:5 I thought I’d share one of the stills from the Total Lunar Eclipse on April 4, 2015.  This was taken shortly after the Partial Phase got started. The Moon is a bit blown out here, but my plan of operation was to stick to one lens, and the same camera settings all through the Eclipse then stack the images in post development. The Moon in the beginning would be blown out I knew, but later in the darker phase of the Eclipse the exposure would be correct.

MM2:4 Geranium

For week 4 of Leanne Cole’s Monochrome Madness I’m sharing a Geranium from my yard. Flowers are popping up all over in California. Whenever I’ve had the chance I’ve got out my macro lens and making flower images.

This little blossom drew me in with its furls, and curls, and it’s filaments open and turned up to the sun as if drinking it in.

Our remodel finally begins!

In Sept. 2014 we started looking for a contractor to add an additional bedroom to our house. We finally narrowed the field and chose a well regarded contractor in our area. We’ve been in the planning, drawing, back to the drawing board phase since then. Finally we’ve reached Phase 1 of the building phase! I didn’t realize how long it takes to get this point.

Phase 1: Hall Bathroom Demolition Day!  Our hall bathroom will be redone/updated with new fixtures, shower walls, tiles, and a new floor.

Here’s what it looked like yesterday:

Some of you may remember that I spent a week-end repainting the cabinet, and mirror, changed the light fixture, and decorations in early September 2014. I’ve been ready for an update for awhile.

Here’s how it looked at the end of business today.

Hall Bathroom Demo Day

We’re keeping the tub as it’s cast iron and in really good shape, but all the other fixtures are being

replaced.  So far they’ve found no water damage. I hope that holds true when they get under the house.

We’ll be a one bathroom family until the end of March.  We can handle that I hope!

In this phase we’re also having a slotted partition that separates our Living and Family rooms replaced with a real wall and a pocket door. That work begins in a few days.

One surprise and disappointment today- we need to have a new attic space entry since we’ll be adding new ceiling and covering up the existing entry. Where we wanted to put it for easier access isn’t going to work. When they cut open the ceiling they discovered our house was built with Trusses and the truss runs through the space we wanted to use. So, it’s plan B, and a big patch job in the ceiling no one expected.

As we go on the additional bedroom will be added, and our entry hall and Master bedroom are being enlarged to be able to access the new bedroom. We’re also enlarging the Master bathroom a little bit.

It sounds like a lot, but in reality as far as additions and remodels go…ours is puny. 🙂 At least around our neighborhood where most folks are super-sizing their homes when they remodel.

It’s going to be chaos around here all Spring, and I imagine there will be one or two more surprises along the way, but it will all be worth it in the end.

I’ll be documenting the work and progress as we go.
