Whatever Weds. Great-tailed Grackle

This bird was on the back fence competing for food with the Yellow-headed Blackbirds making rather lewd calls to scare them off.

He looks a bit grumpy, doesn’t he?

Blackbird

Since we’ve been pretty well settled in we’ve been having family and friends come to visit which is why I’ve been less active on the blog lately.

Baby Girl, the Handsome Surveyor, and the boys came for Mother’s Day and my Birthday, then a good friend stopped by for the night while traveling, and we’ve had Big Baby Boy home for 5 days. Sadly, he’s heading back to SOCAL today.

Both the kids said, “it feels like home!” at the new house and are happy, and like it here too.

The weather has been a bit gloomy lately and driving home from Baby Girl’s Sunday we had snow in the mountains. It was a gorgeous winter wonderland with the tall pines flocked in snow.

On the homefront- I’m still waiting for the countertop for the base laundry room cabinets to come in. The pantry cabinet I ordered arrived damaged and went back, and a wall cabinet got smashed in transit and I’m waiting for that replacement.

The closet shelving in the office and retreat are complete, and He-Man’s Master Closet is finished. He wasted no time filling it up!

The house in Silicon Valley went on the market Friday.  Here’s hoping for a sale soon!

I hope you all are having a good week!

  1. Nice capture, I think all Grackle just have that “Don’t mess with me look” LOL. I hope you had a nice Mother’s Day and Birthday 🙂 Sounds like it was pretty nice.

  2. He sure does look a bit grumpy. I’m glad that things are coming along wonderfully with the settling in. And visits with friends and family always make things even better. 🙂

  3. Love the grackle, grumpy or nah, it’s a great shot!
So pleased things are coming along, not too bumpy of a start 🙂

  4. We call them “HEB birds”, because there sometimes are masses of them at out local supermarket, the H.E.B. 😉
Good luck with the new place and furnishing it!

  5. I spotted a black bird in a tree while out shopping last weekend. It was so large and had such a long tail that I asked my friend. She said it was a grackle. You’re right, Deborah. They have plenty of attitude. 😉
How frustrating and disappointing about the cabinets.
I’ve put my own house-set-up efforts on hold for awhile. Enough people have told me that since I’m on my own timeline I should take it easy — that I’m finally trying to take their advice. LOL.
Silicon Valley? I’m sure you’ll have not only a quick sale, but a bidding war too. Here’s hoping that part goes smoothly.

Belated wishes for a very happy birthday. Go ahead and celebrate again! Many, many happy returns. Hugs on the wing!

    1. I agree take it easy! It will get done. We missed the Sellers market unfortunately so I don’t anticipate bidding wars.

Thank you so much for the lovely comment and Birthday wishes! xx

  6. That’s disappointing when so many things get damaged in transit. You just want to get it done!! But it’s nice to hear that it feels like home. It seems like it’s been a long time in coming 🙂

    1. I do just want it done, but it’s nearly done, and the counter-top granite is being delivered tomorrow. Now, if my contractor is tied up I’ll have to wait a bit for him to come over to do it.

It did take awhile, but it was worth the wait.

  7. Building and remodeling always seem like magic to me. Here’s some wood, here’s some paint–Presto! Changeo! Here’s something that looks like it’s always been here and was always meant to be here! I suspect that anywhere you and He-Man are would feel like home to your loved ones. 🙂

  8. I love the Grackle. They do seem to have some attitude thing going. I’m glad to hear that you’re getting settled and the family approves. I’m guessing it’s you and He Man that make it feel like home.

  9. Glad you’re getting settled in and it feels like home already. That’s a blessing. Things damaged in transit? Not so much of a blessing, but family and friends definitely are good as well.

Yes, your grackle looks a bit grumpy. I’m trying to imagine what a lewd bird call sounds like. 🙂 Cloudy and probably more rain today, with thunderstorms possible almost every day of the next seven days or so. The ark in our backyard is coming along well. 🙂

    1. Clouding up here too, and looks like rain, but it hasn’t rained since early this morning. I love thunder, but I don’t want you guys floating away! Glad you have ark to ride it out. 😉
