I was poking around in folders of file images and opened one from this last March when some friends and I spent the day wandering around Mare Island which was the first Navy Base on the Pacific Ocean. It’s been closed for a long time, but there’s some activity there, and lots of doors.
Here’s two images from that venture.
I love the arches framing the door and windows, and the color of the trim with the red brick. The door is pretty meh, but oh the accessories! 😉
This one is for Dan. It’s an At-At Crane! This huge beast is outside of a Dry-Dock. It even has doors.

This crane is the biggest I’ve ever seen. They must use it to help bring the ships into dry dock. The sky was amazing that day!
I’ll be in FL soon and if you’re ears are ringin…it might be me thinking about you. 😊 I’m going to visit my Mom. We already have a full itinerary, and you birding and wildlife viewing is on my list of must do’s!

I love the blues in that first shot. I mean to tell you, I’m sure it’s lovely on any given day, but doesn’t that blue sky just set the windows ablaze in color? Gorgeous shot!
Ha ha, that crane looks like Cranky from Thomas and Friends. All work and no play! You are right, the brick arches make the door look more interesting. Happy Labor Day, my friend!
Cranky! He’s in my work room. We have a lot of Thomas the Train wooden railway stuff. Even the toy one is BIG! 😊

Ah, yes, the surroundings. Although I’m thinking that the “meh” door is a door within a larger door, making it much more interesting or part of a more interesting door. Happy Friday, Deborah.

Nice images! Mare Island is so fascinating… interesting history. In fact, I wrote a Thursday Door post back in January about my trip there (and, included a crane shot for Dan 🙂 ) inspired by the beautiful doors I found. I love your image of the door surrounded by the arches. Have they opened the distillery yet? I would love to go back when they do.
I had no idea there is going to be a distillery there! There was a lot of construction, and remaking of some of the buildings, but I didn’t know what would be in there when complete.
I’d like to go back when it’s open as well. There’s always something interesting to see and photograph there isn’t there.

No, I haven’t! Years ago I hiked up some trail on the south end of the island that had stunning views of the Carquinez Bridge and the other bridge but there wasn’t any memorial or bench up there. I’m adding that to my list to see and do for next time I’m there. Thank you so much!
When I took the Ferry to SF we would pass Mare Island. Always interesting. Great shots Deborah.

Nice finds, Deborah! I haven’t been to Mare Isle yet so one of these days will have to investigate. If you mentioned that a Distillery Owner is developing the property to promote the distillery you might get the TD followers interested in visiting for the doors, crane and other perks. 😉

Thank you so much for including the crane. I really do like seeing them. Those first doors are beautiful, and I love the sets of arched windows set into a large arch. That seems unique.
I agree with you about the colour combination of steel-blue with the red brick. It’s always a winner. Add arches and I think it’s just about perfect 🙂
