My photo friend Jan Timmons over on flickr pointed out that today is National Bird Day 2017. You know how much I like birds so, to honor them on their special day here are some of my favorite birds. I made these images all in California during 2016.
Snowy Egret-Juvenile; pretty close to fledgling.

Clark’s Grebe w/chick and Fish-dawn

The Elusive American Bittern- I’ve only seen these a handful of times.

and last but, not least our National Bird in the U.S.A. the Bald Eagle- Adult. I’m so happy this bird is making a comeback in California.

Happy National Bird Day 2017!
More to come…

Oh Donna, that was a dream finally realized after nearly 10 yrs of hoping to see the babies on their parents back.
With luck I’ll get another opportunity to see them in my lifetime.
Thank you for the lovely comment and support! xx
Hope you’re getting around much better and healing well!

Birds are amazing and special to me, Deborah. Thanks for the little ones, one on Mama’s back while she still managed to capture a fish and other all fluffy on its own up in a tree. The bittern and the magestic eagle were extra special for us all!

Each of those bird photos is pretty amazing! … but the second photo with the little one and its mouth open on mommy’s back is priceless. That’s a special catch 🙂

Great shots, Deborah. The juvenile Egret is pretty cute. Looks like a little fluff.
I’m actually trying to prepare a bird post. I didn’t know there was a National Bird Day, but I’m not ready anyway. I may work the subject into a bar conversation, though. I’ll add this to the list of things I’m learning from blogs.

Thank you so much Dan! I didn’t know either and I follow two Audubon’s, several bird forums, and other birdy things. If Jan hadn’t said something it would have passed me by.
I’m looking forward to the Bird post you have in the works.

Thank you John! It was a fantastic Spring morning being on the lake seeing the chicks on their parents backs.

But to catch it as it seems to ask the mom to pass the fish was terrific.

I liked the greedy hitch hiker but then the egret, bittern and bald eagle aren’t without their charms. I notice you skilfully captured the elusive bittern as it was about to lunch. The black plastic fork under it’s right wing being the give away. Tremendous images, Deborah, thanks 🙂

🙂 Oh if only I had seen that Bittern snagging and eating its lunch. That would be a coup!
Thank you so much Phil!
