When I was setting up my rig a few weeks ago in Santa Cruz to photograph Hummingbirds a California Quail jumped up on an old weathered post not too far from me surrounded by lovely flowers. I moved pretty quick to finish setting up my tripod w/Sidekick and mounting my camera hoping it would stick around!

“You lookin’ at me?”…

A little Morning Stretch…

Seeing and photographing this Quail first thing in the morning made my day. They’re so quick, and skittish that I’ve only been able to get a few good images of any. The rest of the images I made this day were icing on the cake.

Wishing you all a great week-end!

Great shots 🙂 ! They are all wonderful in their own way. The composition on the first one is spectacular. Great timing and framing! Looks like a beautiful place to spend a few hours.

Don’t they! I’ve only been fortunate photographing them well one other time.
I guess it’s once in a Blue Moon I happen upon one that likes to pose for a photo session. 🙂
Thank you so much Lynn! I hope you had a lovely trip and visit with your daughter.

I sure did! We have lots of quail here and they run across the road so quickly, you think they would get hit by cars but they are so quick, babies behind them all in a hurry! great photo!

You nailed this series! A wonderful subject, framed perfectly, and in beautiful light. Love the shallow DOF and soft colors. I think this is some of your best work! #3 is priceless.
