For July 4th we went down to Southern CA. to visit Big Baby Boy and the Dark Haired Beauty. We went to the beach to watch the fireworks that were being shot off the San Clemente Pier.
Here are a few images of my favorite fireworks and where I was set up. I thought it was a good spot and since high tide wouldn’t be in for hours I thought I’d be good. Ha! I forgot about rogue waves. I got hit by 4 of them. By the end of the night my shoes were soaked and my jeans were too up to the top of my shins! My tripod and camera were just fine.

Beautiful shots of the fireworks. I love the one with the waves coming in. Sometimes, our adventures take us to unexpected chaos. I’m glad your camera equipment was saved, but I see your comment about everything disappearing. That’s terrible! I hope you get a new setup soon, if you haven’t already. I couldn’t live without my camera.

Your photos are amazing, Deborah. You captured the fireworks perfectly. Sorry about your shoes and jeans, but I’m guessing you only were concerned about the tripod and camera.

Thank you so much, Dan. LOL! You know me well. I reached for my tripod first and held on to it so the outgoing waves wouldn’t pull it and my camera over. If my shoes got ruined it would be a lot easier on the wallet to replace than my camera.

Nice! At least you had clar skies! Fogged in here on that night. If it was clear I would attempted a real long shot from my neighborhood hill; on a clear day/night I can see Sutro Towers and the top of the GGB South Tower but no such luck.

What a beautiful spot for fireworks watching. I always prefer a waterside spot if I can find one; the reflection of the lights in the water doubles the beauty.

I agree! It had been ages since I last viewed fireworks from the beach. It was back in 2010 when I and some friends found a secret spot to shoot the Sausalito, CA fireworks.

By the way, one time a little south of San Francisco I was walking by the water, safely I thought, when a sudden wave higher than the ones I’d been seeing came in and doused me. Salt water splashed into my camera bag and I had to spend lots of time wiping off my camera equipment.

The irony was that not long afterward, while still in California, my camera bag and everything in it disappeared, either lost or stolen.
