Birdhouses!

Two years ago there was a wild fire in Washoe County, NV. It was pretty devasting destroying 14 residences, 22 outbuildings, two commercial buildings, and 5,800+ acres of private, state, and federal lands.

Davis Creek Regional Park has partially reopened. Not all trails are completely opened yet, and camping remains closed.

Birds, and wildlife are still thriving there. Last week I was birding there and to my delight saw someone or many talented people have used the felled, and cut trees to create birdhouses.

There was a pair of Western Bluebirds setting up house in one, or maybe two birdhouses.

They were seen trying out two different birdhouses while I was there.

Maybe some nesting material will help. I think he prefers this one.

Here’s a third birdhouse I saw. Maybe they tried it out too?

There were a few wonderful benches added too. Someone very talented carved an Owl to make this one.

It’s wonderful to see the park recovering and see how talented people are using the felled and fallen trees to make the park a more beautiful place.

This post is part of the weekly challenge Thursday Doors hosted by Dan Antion over at https://nofacilities.com/

Head on over there to see more doors from around the world or join the craze and add a door or two of your own. 😊

  1. Thanks for the wonderful share, Deborah. I love the way they made those birdhouses. I heard that bluebirds are particular, and I bought a house designed specifically for them. Snoopy, our resident house wren moved in and her or her offspring have returned every year. Oh well.

That bench is amazing! I can’t even imagine the work involved. It’s good to see the area rebounding after the fire.

    1. Thank you, Dan. I’m glad you liked the post. I didn’t know Bluebirds are picky, but after seeing that pair trying out two houses I guess it’s true!

It is a wonderful use of the fallen and felled trees. Who ever did it/them is so talented! I hope they keep adding to the birdhouses and bench seating.

      1. I do, too. They are so interesting. The guy that owned the bird stuff store told me that blue birds don’t like houses that have a perch, and they prefer a deep box. He said other birds don’t like deep houses.

Snoopy just filled it full of grass and twigs until the floor was just below the entrance.

  2. These were unexpected doors! It’s a wonderful use of felled wood. The birdhouses are clever, and the bench reminds me of the way sculptors created art from trees destroyed by Hurricane Ike. Those sculptures were done in place, so you could tour certain neighborhoods going from one sculpture to another.
