Last week He-Man wanted to break in his new car with a little road trip to the seaside. Santa Barbara, CA. was where he wanted to go. We did some kayaking, birding and a lot of walking. One of the places we birded was Santa Barbara Botanical Garden. The trails are great and while we in the Backcountry section of the garden we came across a Little Library. It’s an Eagle named Nest where you’re invited to enjoy reading while in his nest. I loved it!

This is the coolest Little Library I’ve ever seen.

This post is part of the weekly challenge Thursday Doors hosted by Dan Antion over at https://wordpress.com/tag/thursday-doors
Head on over there to see more doors from around the world or join the craze and add a door or two of your own. 😊

more to come…
What a fun place for little ones … very unique!

Wow! How cool is that! What a great find. Sounds like you had a fun trip. Did you have any wildfire smoke while you were traveling? Such horrible wildfires in CA.

Thank you so much, Jill! It was fun. Thankfully, there were no fires, or smoke while we were there.

I love the idea too. Maybe one day you’ll see one too.

Look at that! Our Free Little Libraries are much less memorable.

The majority of them aren’t this memorable are they. 😊

That is neat Deborah! Reading into the warm enclosure of the eagles wings. Since some years we have these little libraries in my country too, like all over the place, always a local or even a personal initiative. They are aptly called: tiny library. 🙂 The idea is that if you take/lend a book you put another book back in. But eagle shaped I haven’t seen them before!

They’re a hit everywhere I think. Our neighborhood put one in two years ago. This Eagle Nest one is by far the best one I’ve ever come across.

I’ve come across a few of these little libraries, but nothing like this. It’s not only creative, it’s quite inviting. It would be much easier to spend some time there sorting through the offerings to see one that appealed.

I wanted to spend time sorting and tidying it up but, we were on a roll finding birds and I had spotted a Hermit Thrush so off we went. It’s such a cool place. I want to go back and explore the other trails.

You can often find bookcases that you can use for free. But I think finding such a cupboard in the middle of nature is brilliant and is also new for me.

Isn’t it a great nook to read in. I imagine lots of school field trips stop here to read while they’re exploring the garden.

My reaction was similar to yours: I’ve never seen one of these book lending sites as elaborate as this one. It’s the only one I’m aware of that includes seating.

Evidently Santa Barbara has quite a few unique little free reading libraries. I’ll have to look for more when if I get back there.
