On my walk up to the mailbox and back yesterday I spotted one tree with new buds, but there’s a 50% chance of snow on Saturday so Punxsutanwney Phil might be right and there is 6 more weeks of winter.
However, I’m amazed at little sunlight melts the snow here. One minute the Pinenuts are covered in snow and when the sun just peeks out it’s all melts. I supposed that’s because we’re just under 4800 ft elevation where it’s warmer. ?
It’s all new to me and exciting and as just as bewildering.
I believe so. Many things around here are named for him. Carson Pass, Carson River, Carson Valley, and the Carson Range. I think he was the scout to Fremont when he was surveying around this area?
I’m just learning all this too as I dig deeper into my new homeland.
Yes! Parts of the river bank that get more sun are melting already and the bits of trail in the shade are treacherous with ice! My favorite pull out was icy so I passed on pulling into it.
Here as well, but not these golf course ponds. I suppose they’re too shallow. I do miss the birds that are usually here. I think I’ve discovered where some have decided to winter in though. Others…further south I suspect.
I love snow. We haven’t gotten any this year and I miss it. Beautiful photograph!
Thank you so much, Kendall! They say we’re at 153% above the normal level. It’s historic!
I’m enjoying it even the shoveling as it’s a good workout.
What a pretty scene! No snow here yet…I’m not too sad about that. lol.
Thank you, Amy! We may have more snow on the way today! 65% chance anyway and the mountains are definitely getting some more.
This is a great photo for a wordless post –
at first I thought it was foam! then I realized it was snow – and it is so artsy
Thank you so much, Yvette! 😀
🙂
I like the rhythm.
Thank you! It’s a lovely view.
Nice wintry shot Deborah! The snow keeps coming here with more expected this Mon. – Wed.
Thank you so much, Denise. We got more snow yesterday too. I think we’re done with it for the next week anyway. Stay warm!
Nice iPhone 7 shot! Beautiful landscape.
Thank you, John!
Wow, the snow is melting, already! Pretty scene!
It is! It is amazing how fast it begins to melt with just a little sunshine. Thanks, Gordon!
A beautiful capture!
Thank you so much, Sue!
Lovely! I have serious winter envy of this picture, Deborah. 🙂
Thank you so much, Steve!
A lovely winter walk. Thank you!
It was my pleasure to share this scene with you, Rebecca! 😃
Thank you!!
“More to come?” Snow? 🙂 Couldn’t resist. Looks like a coming-of-spring photo.

I wish there was an edit comment button! I was adjusting sentences and as you see…I need an editor!
I take it the Carson River is named for Kit Carson. Is that correct?

Taos, New Mexico, also has Kit Carson things, including his grave, which we visited in 2002.
Oh, I didn’t know that!

Thanks, that was interesting!
Like desert islands in the middle of a snow sea!

I would have passed on that too.
😃
So pretty and looks peaceful! ❤️
It was quite very people were hiking the trail on this morning.
Looks like winter. 🙂
😃 Fortunately not single digits on this day so I ventured out and got my boots muddy and snowy.
So pretty, Deborah! And nice to see some open water.
Thank you so much, Belinda! The ponds in our neighborhood are frozen solid!
A strange winter here. Many freeze and thaw cycles 😏

Snow produces our Creator’s beautiful artwork, something we never see here in our hotter land. Your photo says it all Deborah.
Thank you so much, Ashley! 😃
I like the melting effect, Deborah.
Me too. Thanks so much, John! 😃
😊
That’s a lovely scene, Deborah. Looks like nature arranged the snow just for you.
Thank you so much, Dan! 😃 It’s amazing how little sun it takes to start to melt the snow here.
