I got home Thursday night and saw a friend was having a Meet Up to photograph the Wild Mustard that is in bloom here now, and the sunset. I signed up to go straight-away. I’ve been missing my camera time quite a lot.
It was so good to get out with friends old and new to converse, hear the birds, see the fields of wild mustard, and a lovely sunset.
This was our last stop for the evening; in a vineyard looking west over the wild mustard and vines as the sunset cast its last light on the Santa Cruz mountains and valley below.

Wow! Stunning photo, Deborah! I don’t think I have ever seen fields of wild mustard. On our prairies we can see fields of yellow canola flowers. Living on the West coast I have only seen them on a road trip. I do love Spring.
Thank you so much, Erica! I don’t think I’ve seen the fields of canola flowers, only corn and wheat when I drove through the prairie states on our epic trip in the mid-eighties.

What a beautiful sky. I’m not sure if we have wild mustard here in Ireland but that looks very like what we call ‘rapeseed’ and it’s cultivated here to produce edible oil.

I had to look up rapeseed to see how close they are to our Mustard. They’re related! Wikidif even says our wild mustard was introduced via Europeans. So it’s not even native!
My take is that Mustard produces seed pods, and Rapeseed grain. You’re right the flowers look very much alike!
Aha! Thanks for looking it up, Deborah. The climate in Ireland suits it well, so there are fields and fields of it here in the summertime.
Here too in Spring. Right now in some places it was nearly chest high! It grows so fast!

A beautiful sight, Deborah. Our daughter in Pasadena said the wildflowers are spectacular this year. I look forward to seeing some here in the not-too-distant future (at least I hope not too far.)

Oh, man, they’re calling another year of the SuperBloom! The poppies and wildflowers in SoCAL are said to be fantastic again so much so that there are hordes of people down there.
Did you read about the town Lake Elsinore closing the town due to the crowds? It was awful for them the paper said, but then the businesses who made a lot of money off the wildflower loving crowd faught back and now they’re going to open the city again this weekend so the towns bussinesses can make money. Money Talks!
I think they’re going to be shuttling people out to the flower fields though to mitigate illeagal and over crowded parking.
I wish I could go again this year, but I’m too busy packing and getting ready for the move.
No, I didn’t hear about it. I’ll have to look it up. But serendipitous, today at the thrift store, I found a greeting card with a photo of a superbloom. Awesome…in the true sense of the word!

We’re moving to our house in NV. We signed with a realtor to sell our house here, We have a dumpster arriving soon, and I’m packing, packing, packing, and sorting.

I know right! I’m hoping to get to the coast to see the Wild Mustard and Wild Radish that grow and blend together before I move, but time is racing on!
