If I’m lucky I get to see and photograph a Hooded Oriole once during Spring. This year I was lucky! Isn’t he beautiful?
I was photographing the Bald Eagle when it left it’s perch and flew away. After watching it soar higher and higher into the thermal stream I turned around to head to the car for the next birding location and, there this Hooded Oriole was! It must have been watching and waiting for the Eagle to leave so it could claim the perch for a little while.

Have a great and cheery week-end everyone!

Oh how lovely! Yesterday I was out with Pete the Puppy and noticed a bird singing in the neighbor’s dead ash. It was an oriole!

This really is a rare sight “for sore eyes!” My grandfather used to hold me up to look inside nests. When birds would sing, he would whistle back. I think your “luck” may actually be the fact you are a bird “magician!” 🙂

🙂 Thank you Robin! I try to whistle back, but can only do a House Finch sort of.
I can’t really whistle at all. I never figured out how to do it.

You are sometimes silly which works with my silliness! 🙂 Thanks for trying to whistle like a House Finch. . .

YES … he is beautiful and so is your capture!!! I think I saw one of these the other day but thought it was a meadowlark. I’ll have to get the book out and compare.

Thank you so much Katie! We don’t seem to have very many birds of vibrant colors here on the West coast do we?
I get really excited to go looking for this one because he’s so beautiful, and one of a few really colorful birds we get here in NOR CAL.
