After all the rain we have had I’ve been itching to get out to Uvas Canyon to photograph the creeks, and waterfalls, but Uvas Canyon County Park was closed for about 2 weeks due to flooding, and high water. It just reopened on the 27th so, this morning #1 Grandson and I went up there for a little hike.
The creeks are full of rushing water hurrying down the hills, and the waterfalls are full and lovely.
I stopped along the creek to make some images on the way up the trail.
I really wanted to get in the creek and get to some better angles, but with #1 Grandson with me that wasn’t a good idea. He was wanting to get in to go for BIG rocks to throw. 🙂
He was trooper and made it all the way up to Upper Falls, and back on his own two feet. Although while throwing rocks in the creek he waded in after a big rock and got his feet and shoes wet. He said he had lots of fun today.
He did sit and pose for me, and give me a silly smile. I’m crazy about this boy!
I am hoping to get back up there with my Wellies and maybe not #1 Grandson so I can get in the creek and head up and down a few more trails where there other little cascading falls to photograph.

Your grandson showed such joy in his face and body, too. He looks like such a confident and intelligent child.
I loved the way that you got the flowing and rushing waters to “fluff,” Deborah! I had a friend tell me this is the term for making the water look like it is going to send drops right off your picture. The photos were gorgeous!

#1 Grandson is very intelligent, and steps back and accesses situations before wading in and showing his confident and assertive side. I hope that sticks. I think that will serve him well throughout his life.
The “fluff”. It’s a slow shutter speed, but I had to kick it up a bit to allow for #1 Grandson’s breathing. Thankfully, it was a bit shady where we were sitting so it blurred out and softened the rushing water behind him.
Normally I would have had a Neutral Density Filter on to really slow down the water and cut the light down, but when photographing people you need the shutter speed up to allow for breathing and minute movements.

Thank you so much Jesh! I had my tripod. He’s used to me using here at home, and seeing me leave with it. The hardest part is reminding him to hang on to me while I’m shooting rather than the tripod. 🙂

I’m grateful to have the opportunity and means to take to the countryside where he can run, and throw rocks, and pick up sticks to fling around wildly in the air without the danger of breaking windows, or hurting anyone. Mind you I do keep my eye on him so he doesn’t hurt himself in the process though! 🙂
