Killdeer-
The Killdeer is a year round resident in California, and gets its name from the shrill, wailing kill-deer call it makes. I love their big eyes.

Happy Earth Day!

Great photo :-)! I always like seeing their big eyes and the funny way they move. They always look so nervous!

I like their markings too. They look like little maitre-d’s in a Tuxedo. But their eyes, and the eyes of Black-necked Stilts always capture my heart.
Thank you for the comment Myriam!

Thank you so much Denise! I got lucky; this one was hungry and more interested in finding something yummy to eat, but it did keep an eye on me at all times.

I’ve never heard of them. Handsome guy. Thanks for the introduction.

Thanks Dan! Really you’ve never heard of them? It looks like they are regulars in CT too, but I’m a bit challenged on small maps without state names or abbreviations. 🙂

They might be common here, but I don’t know much about our birds. I’ll check with the Mrs.

I don’t know about birds either. 🙂 This one I happen to see fairly often though.

Beauty! Never heard of this bird before. Guess I’m getting a birding education from your posts. Thanks for sharing.
