I had hoped to line up the moon behind the lighthouse this morning, but I botched the alignment of this shot. I hope the next time I try it the sky is as clear as today, and I do a better job of aligning myself and the lighthouse. I have to say even though I botched the alinement I love the the sky. The layers of color were lovey and the soft pink luster the Belt of Venus lent the morning was a gift. It made up for my bad calculation.
I think there will be some of you who think I should crop the top of the sky, but I love the graduated layers of color so I’ve left it as I saw it.

"The world is too much with us." ~ William Wordsworth 1806
THE world is too much with us; late and soon,
Getting and spending, we lay waste our powers:
Little we see in Nature that is ours;
We have given our hearts away, a sordid boon!
The Sea that bares her bosom to the moon;
The winds that will be howling at all hours,
And are up-gathered now like sleeping flowers;
For this, for everything, we are out of tune;
It moves us not.–Great God! I’d rather be
A Pagan suckled in a creed outworn;
So might I, standing on this pleasant lea,
Have glimpses that would make me less forlorn;
Have sight of Proteus rising from the sea;
Or hear old Triton blow his wreathed horn.

As we close this year I just wanted to take a moment and thank you all for sharing your lives with me.
You’ve inspired, and encouraged me more than words can say, and I’m grateful for each of you.

I’m looking forward to your adventures, and photographic journeys in 2012. May they be safe trips filled with laughter, true friends, health, and great light!

This guy was foraging in the thicket for the longest time. Finally he emerged and got himself a Crawdad!

I’ve been shooting birds everyday except Christmas Eve, and Christmas. It’s been great fun. I have several new birds to add to my "Shot list". Like this White-faced Ibis whose plumage is changing to his winter coat of purple.

I hadn’t been up to Mission Peak hiking in over a month and thought I’d head up to visit the Pole, but the weather altered my plan. Driving over to Fremont I hit dense pockets of fog that followed me up the mountain as I hiked.
When I reached the turn to hike up the last 300ft to the Peak the fog was a thick blanket over the entire valley below me and it was climbing up the mountain at a quick pace. I didn’t think I would beat it to the top so I hiked over to the Hang Glider staging area to view the sunrise, and photograph the color while I still could.
Can you tell how windy it was? The grass in the foreground is a bit blurry due to the wind that picked up at around 1000ft.
I took a few photographs here then headed down.

Hike details:
Total miles: 5.44
Total elevation gain:1,615ft
Total time: 2h 48mins.

I loved the reflected lines in this lagoon and thought I’d play with the movement and de-focusing again while the light was so nice then as I pushed the shutter release this cormorant flew into the frame. When I looked at it in playback I really liked the contrast, and placement I got him in the frame. A happy accident!

This is my first Bufflehead! I hope to get a better one someday. She was pretty far so I’ve cropped in a good bit here.

This looks better large. Please click the photo for a larger view.

Not shoveling at the moment…she’s more of a glider.
