Me at the 2,517 ft survey marker

Via Flickr:
I hiked up to Mission Peak this morning with a full backpack for a bit of training before next week-ends over night backpacking trip. I felt great. I didn’t need to adjust my pack the whole hike up. I took the steepest route. 2.9 miles up and a climb of 2,149 ft. I did it in 2:09. My best time ever for that route!

I haven’t photographed this bridge from this angle since June 2011. Since then these long strands of scaffolding with lights have been added giving it a whole new look to photograph.
I think the strands of lights are actually cat-walks/scaffolding for the construction workers to get up there to what is going to be the new tower. This section will be a Self-anchored Suspension Bridge when finally complete sometime in 2013.

While out shooting the night sky last Friday I turned my camera’s lens to the south to photograph the Milky Way over this oak tree and got lucky and caught a Perseid Meteor as it streaked by too.

Morning Fog sits over the Valley

This was at roughly the 4.2mile mark of what turned into an 8 mile hike on Monday. I had work scheduled for the day, but the class was canceled at the last minute giving me an opportunity to hit the trail in the morning. The Open Space Preserve where I hiked was once owned by Fremont Older and his wife Cora. Fremont was a San Francisco newspaper editor and he named the peaks on his property after famous peaks in San Francisco. On my hike on this morning I hiked all 3 peaks, Knob Hill, Maise’s Peak the highest in the Preserve, and Hunter’s Point. This is the view from Hunter’s Point. This is sort of an North-eastern view of the valley. Beyond the valley you can barely see the Peaks of Mt. Hamilton, Mt Allison, and Mission Peak.
They are in the Diablo Mountain Range. The most visible peak on the far right is Mt. Umunhum which means the Resting Place of the Hummingbird, It’s the 4th highest peak in Santa Clara Co.
