I was in my archives recently looking for an image when I came upon a little piece I wrote back in 2017 after making this image. I had an old terracotta flower pot that I kept on our deck for years and years and years. It was a convenient vessel to throw Big Baby Boy’s little action figures in as I cleaned and raked out his sandbox of leaves and stuff. There they sat long forgotten until that day long ago in 2017 remembered once more.

Broken Toys in a Clay Pot
Oh, the battles fought, won, and lost.
Dunes, mountains, and beaches they rushed.
Each solider, dino, and truck carefully chosen to round out the meme.
Rescued from the Great Backyard Battlefield, now broken, and maimed.
30 plus years they’ve been out of the battle,
but their spirit lives on in the memories of the little boy who called them
HIS.
2017
more to come…
We sometimes feel like those toys Deborah, we know we are broken people but unlike Humpty Dumpty we have a wonderful Saviour Jesus to put us back together again 🙂

Awesome photos and post Deborah! It reminded me of the time I went to a workshop and because it was raining we got to shoot in a store that had some antiques and other cool stuff … some in bulk and barrels.

Oh, I did like this post and the smile it brought. Great memories of good times had by a small boy now all grown up. I know this photo warms your heart because it certainly did mine.

I’m still ‘redistributing’ old daycare toys. There are so many memories from toys!

That’s beautiful, Deborah. Those days filled with simple play and imagined scenes were so much fun for children. What a lovely thing to do, to recall those moments and record your thoughts.

On second thought, maybe I just haven’t encountered many toys that boys prefer!

It is! G.I. Joe and Super hero action figures got smaller, but the range of characters keeps growing!
