Early last week I met a girlfriend up in Reno’s Rose Garden to see all the lovely Roses that were in bloom.
Here are a few of the many images I made of them.

Happy mid week everyone!
more to come…
The first rose looks very much like my mother’s favorite; she didn’t grow many, but she always had that one. Of course, being a Texan and all, the yellow rose is my favorite. The song’s got a complicated history going back to the 1830s, but it’s great fun.

My Grandmother had a rose garden. I had no idea she did until I was 21 years old and went to to see the home my Mother grew up in. Mom didn’t talk about her childhood or home at. all. I wish she had. It was painful so she closed it out. I found the good stuff she should have shared. In Mom’s later years she was coming around to seeing that. Unfortunately, time ran out last year.
My Grandmother’s roses were gorgeous.
When I was a girl we lived in a house that a a whole row of roses along the fence. In the summer I would tend them. I would prune without knowing what the hell I was doing and I would cut roses to bring in the house and put and an old milk bottle to brighten our dinner table. Mom said I had the gift her Mom had. I didn’t have a clue! Do you think garden a certain flower is in the genes? I have one house plant I’ve managed to keep alive for 7 years. Everything else is pure luck if it’s alive.
I was only 13 weeks old when my Grandmother died. I wish I knew her. I wish Mom talked more about her. It must have been really painful to lose her. I didn’t get it until last year when I lost my mom how painful that loss is. She was just 17. I was in my 60’s! It makes a huge difference in understanding how life works. TMI? Sorry. Mom’s been on mind for weeks. Another kinda weird thing happened a few days before I visited the Rose Garden that has Mom all over it. Email me if you want to know about that.
I had the Yellow Rose of Texas in my head as I was photographing that rose! I don’t even know all the words! 😂

Can I delete this and fix my typos?!!! I wish WP would build in that feature instead of messing with things that break things that just work!

Thank you so much, Ashley! Unfortunately unless I have my nose buried in them I can’t smell them. This time of year I’m either runny or plugged up.

How splendid, Deborah — the flowers and the compositions too. As a child I was fascinated by roses that have the different colored edges on the petals. They continue to be a favorite. A single rosebush is fragrant. I can imagine the heady perfume of an entire garden. Hugs.

Thank you so much, Teagan! The variegated ones are lovely. My smeller is a bit handicapped this time of year unfortunately.

Good off-center placement of the first rose.
Your wish for a happy mid-week coincides with the fact that the German name for Wednesday is Mittwoch, literally mid-week.

Thank you so much, Steve! Ha! I never thought of where mid-week came from! You’re a boss when it comes to language!

By the way, I just looked up boss in the American Heritage Dictionary and found that English got it from “Dutch baas, master (from earlier, uncle); akin to Old High German basa, aunt.”

Ha Ha! I had a feeling you might do that. Huh, who knew it’s from the Dutch and German!? I learned something else new today from you.
