The only sporting venue I’ve been to in the last few years is Greater Nevada Field in Reno, NV to see the Reno Aces play baseball. The Aces are a Minor League team in the Pacific Coast League and a Triple-A team affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

He-Man and I enjoy the games and try to go a several times each season.

Here’s the entrance gate we use. I love the faux baseball overhang.

The team has two mascots Archie the Sasquatch of the Sierra Mountains, and Truckee. Who is a water droplet who originates from the Truckee River. They make the intervals so much fun! They dance, they race the kids, the kids always win, they throw t-shirts, and baseballs. We’ve caught a couple, and they get us up and dancing all. the. time! I get up and dance and do the 7th inning stretch. I will never be too old to sing Take Me Out To The Ballgame which they do every 7th inning. It never get old. The only sport I really, really like is baseball. I also like pool/billiards. Now you know. 😊

Lambo is the team Bat Dog. She’s a chocolate Labrador retriever. She retrieves bats left at the plate by Aces players and returns them safely to the dugout. She attends several games a season. Last season she was there for Family Day, Dog Day, and Fan Appreciation Day. She was so fun to watch!

Here’s the view looking west after the sun goes down and the lights of the stadium and a few casinos come on.

Another view west with the crescent moon and stadium lights on.

Our favorite seats are on the 3rd base line facing east. I have images of that view too but, will save those for another post.

  1. Hi Deborah, looks like fun! I love the bat dog and the mascots!! I am not a big baseball fan but I liked watching the Seattle Mariners playing this year. I like to watch our local basketball team, Gonzaga play, go Zags! 👏🏻

  2. I so enjoyed this post, Deborah! There’s nothing better than attending a live sporting event; it’s so different than watching the game on TV. And the Reno Aces mascots are just wonderful, especially Lambo. I went to a Boston Bruins hockey game, first one in nearly 40 years. Wow! And I’ve been to a Red Sox game. There’s nothing like the Green Monster wall. Your photos are wonderful!

  3. Not a sport I know about (not a big thing in the UK). Nice stadium, could do with a bigger crowd.
I used to go watch my local football (soccer) team, Norwich City before tickets became too expensive and hard to get. Every game sold out 26,000 fans, before the stadium was turned into all seater we used to get nearly 40,000 for big games!
Now my only sporting love is…… well I think you know that one!

    1. 😊 I do know the sport you love. We go on Wednesday nights which tends to draw less people unless the team is having a really great season then it gets crowded. Last season they struggled with pitching, and their best players got called up. It’s the nature of AAA ball I think. Tickets are cheaper on Wednesdays but, still affordable any night they play. Thankfully!

  4. Great-looking stadium. Minor league baseball is the best kind, I think. I don’t really follow baseball much, but I do love Otani for the Dodgers, who proves my long-held belief that there’s no reason pitchers shouldn’t be able to hit. 🙂 And baseball is definitely best in person!!

We’re into cycling, rugby, and college football, but primarily rugby right now. We get several apps that allow us to watch the games overseas as well as in the US. My husband played rugby for some years, so I have my own expert. And we’ve attended sevens tournaments in LA for a few years. What a blast!! We’ve also been at a stage of the Tour de France, another awesome experience.

    1. You’ve been to some neat sporting events. I think a lot of pitchers can hit the teams just want to save them from any chance of hurting their pitching arms. 😊 I think a pitcher for the Aces hit this year, but they had a designated runner for him.

  5. How enjoyable! Base ball isn’t a big sport in the Netherlands, and as far as I know in the whole of Europe. Over here its what we call football and in the US is known as soccer. In your pictures it looks great, a large field, the seats. Did I understand correctly the game is a family outing event? It looks like aan easy going sport but I’m sure there will be much exitement going on. I keep seeing Charlie Brown with this far to big glove waiting for a ball at the second base. 🙂 Wonderful post Deborah!

  6. Great photos, Deborah. I love going to see our minor league (Yardgoats) team play. The mascots Chompers and Chew-chew are so good with the kids. I think about the wearing those outfits when it’s over 90 degrees and I wonder how they can keep laughing and playing, but they do.

  7. Your mention of “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” made me realize I knew nothing about the origin of that oh-so-familiar song. The Wikipedia article about it reveals the surprising fact that “neither of its authors had attended a game before writing the song.” The article also claims that it “is one of the three-most recognizable songs in the US, along with ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ and ‘Happy Birthday.'”

  8. Can you believe I’ve never been to a pro or semi-pro sports event of any kind? Once I was out of high school, even football games fell by the wayside. I follow Houston’s pro teams casually, but my interest is far less than one of my cousin’s. He and his wife moved to Arizona in order to attend the spring training games of fifteen (!) baseball teams.
