I thought I’d share some of the birds I’ve seen the last couple of weeks.
Starting with a little Pygmy Nuthatch. It was flying to and from its nest the hole in a tree trunk you can sort of see behind it.

A female Downy Woodpecker who was cold that morning. It was 15 degrees F when we started birding. She didn’t move from that tree for the longest time.

Another morning I had the pleasure of viewing a posing Cooper’s Hawk. Look at that tail!

Then it showed off its wing.

Then it flew showing off its wing span.

Last but not least, I saw the pair of Bald Eagles in their tree near my house on my way out last week. He was obscured by all the branches, but she was up high and in the open. I had to stop for a photo of her.

That’s all I have for you this week. I may be late getting to your posts and blogs this morning as I’m birding with my bird group.
More to come…
Awesome shots of our feathered friends!!!

Love your bird photos! The nuthatch looks so familiar! I can only dream of seeing something so big as a hawk. I had to scroll down to leave a comment on this post! Congratulations on all the comments – the pictures are truly wonderful!

I think I did. The one that got away with some food? I’m still having issues commenting on some blogs. I’m sorry!

The Coopers Hawk looked like it was showing off for you! Great shots! I see one of these hawks every once in a while at the lake. I like that you were able to show the little tree nest of the Nuthatch. They move so quick I have a hard time finding any nests. All your photos are amazing!

That Cooper’s Hawk was fun to watch. I got lucky that morning with the Nuthatch. They are hard to follow they’re so fast! Thank you so much, Jill!

Absolutely fabulous captures and sightings, Deborah. I’ve never seen a Pygmy Nuthatch, they aren’t on the east coast, what a cutie! Those are some lovely Cooper’s shots, capturing all those patterns and details, well done! I’m a braker for an eagle in a close tree too, always time for a couple quick shots before moving on hehe. I hope you had a great birding day too 🤩

Thank you so much, Donna! It was a good birding day. 48 species sighted and yesterday I got 55 species sighted. 😊

Woohoo, impressive counts! Things quiet here last couple days due to high winds, so all my birds are tucked into shelter. I did go in search, for the 5th time, for a rare Barnacle Goose 1.5 hrs from me. Rode all around the area, back and forth, where it was day before in a Canada Geese flock. Gave up and went to the creek it was in last week, and BINGO found it with my scope! Too far for photo darn it, but I’ll take the lifer. 😊

WOOT!! Yes, on the lifer! 💃 Have you thought about a digiscoping kit for your cell phone or camera so you can get those shots that are really far out with your scope? I don’t have a scope so I’ve not, but it looks impressive.

I actually did buy a kit few months ago and was having some issues on using it comfortably. I actually pulled it back out couple weeks ago before going to the ocean inlets and was trying again, but gave up rather quickly, because I didn’t have the time at the moment. It’s still sitting out on the table, to try once again when I can spend a good hour or so of playing with it.

Hopefully, you can get that hour soon playing with it out the back door. Show me the way! 🥰

Well, those are wonderful catches. The woodpecker indeed looks cold. 🙂 The hawk is really showing off! And then the bald eagle – one can’t think of a better symbol of a country. (I guess the Netherlands would have to have a cow. But imagine a cow up in the trees looking all confused. Not much heroism. 🙂 )

LOL! You’re too funny! Thank you so much, Peter! That Hawk was a show off, but I’m not mad about it. 😊

The Downy Woodpecker is about as cute as a birdie can be. Lovely photo, even if she looks a tad cold.

WordPress didn’t want to let me like this post, Deborah, but I really do. The photos are great. I love the sequence with the Coopers Hawk. We have one around here. They are beautiful. I love that shot you got of his wings, in the tree and while taking off. Mrs. Baldy is beautiful. I love seeing the downy woodpeckers. Thanks for sharing these.

Wonderful photos, Deborah. It’s amazing what can be created with a good long lens and lots of patience. The little downy woodpecker sure does look cold.
