Whatever Weds. The Blue Angels Came to Town!

On Thursday I heard them practicing and went to sit out back on my patio and watch them. I saw they were in camera range so grabbed my camera and made rather a lot of images. Here’s just one from my patio.

On Friday I went to a secret spot and photographed them practicing for the week-end show. Here’s one of my favorite shots. An upside down Lunar Flyby.

Blue Angels Lunar Flyby

Flying in Moon image is #1 Capt. Brian C. Kesselring, USN, in #3 is Lt. Scott Goossens, USN, in #7 is LCDR Griffin Stangel, USN, and in #2 is LCDR Chris Kapuschansky, USN.

They’re so much fun to watch! I have oodles of images, because I went back to the secret spot on Saturday, and photographed some more. Hoping to pick up some shots I missed. So, you may be seeing images of from these 3 days for awhile.

  1. Wow. What a treat to see the Blue Angels here, Deborah. Both your photos are fantastic! I love that you found a secret place to watch them practice. I searched the skies this past week, knowing they were coming to SF for Fleet Week, but I didn’t see or hear them this year. Their Sunday showing had to be cancelled due to the fog. Neat, too, that you included the names of the pilots. Very cool post.

  2. You are very, very lucky to find a spot to photograph the Blue Angles. When our son graduated from the Naval Academy, the house we rented had a ‘secret spot’, and we were lucky enough to witness what you saw. Wow! Your photos are the best. Love the moon in the photo shot!

  3. You coud post these images every day until you run out, Deborah (and then you could start over). I saw them from above once as I was flying into LAX and they were practicing for the Miramar Air show. Practice or not, they are so fun to see. That picture of them with the moon in the background is amazing. They could use that as a promotional piece.

    1. Thank you so much, Dan! I never went to see them while I lived in the San Francisco Bay area b/c of the traffic and crowds. I’m so glad I got to see them here!
I don’t think I’d ever get tired of seeing them soar and zip by. They’re pretty amazing pilots and planes.

    1. Thank you so much, Peter! They’re a special Navy team of 17 officers who serve voluntarily for the Blue Angels. The team usually selects three tactical (fighter or fighter/attack) jet pilots, two support officers, and one Marine Corp C-130 pilot to relieve departing members…per the USN Blue Angels website.

    1. They ARE fantastic images. A few years back we got tickets to see them, and I took (and even shared) photos. The few where I captured the Blue Angels. In most I captured just sky 😀

I’m in awe of the one with the moon, what a SPECTACULAR shot!!!
