Hello 2021!
He-Man and I spent the last afternoon of 2020 snowshoeing at a lake nearby to stretch our legs.
There were a few other people enjoying the sunny day. Some decided to ice fish on lake. They were just drilling out their hole here when we went by.

The scenery was just lovely. The sky was so blue with nice clouds, and there was not much of a breeze so we warmed up quickly while snowshoeing.

It felt great to get out and stretch our legs. We had a very quiet evening in for New Year’s Eve. I didn’t make it to midnight, and I slept soundly as there were no fireworks, cannon or guns being fired in our neighborhood. We didn’t know what to expect since we’d spent our first New Year’s Eve in our new house not in our house at all, but in London. So, we’ve discovered it was quite different from our old neighborhood where there would have been fireworks, cannon, and shouting, and whooping it up. Did you make it to midnight? Were there noisemakers and celebrations in your neighborhood?
The 1st found me being lazy. I made our traditional good luck dinner, but I did try to recreate the Good Luck meal we had on New Year’s Day in London at Herman ze German’s by adding Brats and German beer to our menu. I hope I ate enough to have good luck all through the year.
The day closed with some lovely color after the sun went down. It was a lovely day and I hope it sets the tone for the upcoming year.

Happy New Year Everyone! I hope we all remain, safe, healthy, and have some fun this year!
more to come…
What a pretty sunset to Capp off your day enjoying the outdoors! Funny, I went past a lake yesterday to find a few ice fishermen too.
Thank you so much, Denise! Isn’t neat seeing ice fishing? I’ve never seen it in person until recently.
Yes it’s neat. And BTW … pretty sure I typed in ‘cap off your day’ … darn auto incorrect!
No worries! I knew what you meant. 😀 I make typos all. the. time!
Happy New Year, Deborah!! That snow looks so pretty. I’ve not been snowshoeing yet. Only trudging through the snow in winter boots. I did make it to midnight for the New Year, but then promptly took myself to bed. lol. Your day did close out with some truly lovely color!! Spectacular photos! 🙂
Happy New Year, Amy!
Thank you so much. I hope you have a great year!
Absolutely beautiful! We did make it to midnight because we had all that noise going on in our neighborhood until about 1:30 in the morning. Poor Heaven was a mess! If it wasn’t for us coddling her, we probably wouldn’t have stayed up. 🙂
Thankfully, our Diva Dog wasn’t upset by them, but she did stay close to us and watch our behavior when fireworks were being set off somewhere nearby.
I hope you slept in on the 1st. 😀
I think I was up at 7:30. So yes, I slept in. LOL! 🙂
That would be sleeping in for me too. 😀
LOL! 🙂
Hi Deborah! Happy New Year! I have not been around much because WordPress has decided they have no idea who I am and I get tired of continually recreating my login. But enough of that! Your shots of where you went snow shoeing are gorgeous. Just look at that deep blue sky against the pines. mmmm.
It was quiet here, too, thankfully. Some fireworks went off but they were the quiet kind, very respectful.
Happy New Year, Melissa! I’ve missed your posts. I went looking for you and there’s nothing there so I’m glad you popped in!
Thank you, Deborah! Stupid WordPress has decided I don’t exist, but I am still writing posts. I continually have to re-sign in. I’ve updated all the settings I can find and STILL it doesn’t come up for people.
I’m not receiving your posts! I have to check my settings and find out if something is off there. Have you tried talking to the Happiness Engineers at WP? I hope you can get it sorted.
If you click on my avatar, and look down to where it shows websites, my blog should be there.
I’m going to go check that out, and my own settings too.
When I click on your melissabluefineartblog.wordpress.com I get a page that says you’ve deleted your account. I wish I could screen shot it for you to see.
There was an old blog I deleted. The current one is melissabluefineart.wordpress.com. I’m sorry for the confusion. I assumed, since it was still me, WordPress would just sort of smooth it all out. I’ve tried to update things, and have reached out to them, all to no avail.
Happy New Year, Deborah! It sounds like you had a lovely day. Your photos are gorgeous, especially the sunset, and the snow on the pines.
Thank you so much, Jennie! I hope you have a wonderful year! 🥰
You’re welcome, Deborah! 🙂
So serene and pretty and peaceful!
Here in the city, yes fireworks, and yes, gunfire O_O I’m okay with about 15 minutes of fireworks, then I feel like “Simmer down, y’all!”
We did make it to midnight. Moo barely made it. It might have been the worst NYE ever, as I don’t believe our family had any enthusiasm whatsoever, but we plod on. Sometimes there’s only UP 🙂
Well, if I can’t go up I try to go sideways til I can. 😀 Happy New Year to you and your family, Joey! xx
Beautiful blog
Thank you so much, Rajanisingh!
My pleasure
Happy one week into 2021 already. On the evening of December 31st we heard firecrackers in the neighborhood but they didn’t keep us from heading off at a regular bedtime. In a normal year we’d have been at the house of friends.
I hope this year you get to spend time with those friends a whole bunch if you want to. 😀
That sounds like a wonderful day, Deborah. The photos are certainly lovely.
LOL, I’m sure there is a time zone somewhere where I made it until midnight! 😀
Happy New Year and hugs on the wing.
My son said, “I made it to midnight…eastern time”. He’s west coast. 🤣 You two are thinking alike.
Thank you so much, Teagan. Hugs!!
I missed this yesterday. I’m glad you were able to get out and move around. It looks like a wonderful place to snowshoe.
I did make it until midnight. there were a few fireworks, but nothing horrible like in years passed.
Happy New Year!
Thank you so much, Dan! I thought there would be noise makers and music at least especially down on our end of the street cause we’re the partiers on the street, but it was so quiet. 😀
We’re finding all kinds of neat and pretty places to snowshoe. We’re thinking of trying a cross country ski lesson now.
That’s great. The sights are so much different in the winter.
Yes, yes– what you said: “I hope we all remain, safe, healthy, and have some fun this year!” Couldn’t agree more.
😀 Thank you, Ally!
Wonderful photos, Deborah. I really like the ice fishing shot 😊. Best wishes for the year ahead!
Thank you, Belinda! It’s a cool little lake. I had no idea there was ice fishing here it was neat to see.
Stunning sunset over Carson Valley!! ❤️
Thank you, Donna! 😀
Gorgeous shots – especially that last one. 2021 is starting off a “bit” rocky, but fingers crossed for improvement.
Thank you so much, Janis! Definitely fingers crossed for a better year. 😀
The view of that last shot is breathtaking! If you are going to have snow might as well have a lot, all we’ve had is a bit of sleet.
New years eve, bed by 11pm awake at midnight as the first fireworks went off, still going 45mins later! Got to get used to living in a town I guess.
Thank you so much, Brian! I love the snow on the mountains best of all. We’ve only had snow twice down here in the valley so far this winter. I hope we get more.
We were surprised there weren’t any people out making noise to ring in the new year here, but I slept well. 😀
Your festivities and outdoor scenes sound wonderful, Deborah. I like that you added some German flair to the meal in a tribute to your adventure last New Year’s Day. And the photos are fantastic. I espec. like the ice fishing scene and that final mountain expanse. Beautiful fluffy snow and energetic snowshoeing to wrap up the year. I hope your new year is a happy one.
Thank you so much, Jet! I hope your year is a happy one too. 😀
Your last photo is breathtaking! I was in bed before midnight, but I did hear fireworks coming from somewhere not too far away. I must admit most days are kind of lazy during this pandemic, but I’m hoping that changes as we move into the year and the vaccine trickles down. Stay well.
Thank you so much, Judy! I have been getting dressed and putting a little make up at least during the week so I don’t get too lazy, and I’m ready to go for a walk.
I hope the vaccine trickles down quickly. If there’s a call for a will call list at the hospital I sign up! Better that than have to throw out the vaccine.
Hi, I’m Suzanne from Picture Retirement. I don’t think I have commented on your blog before, but I do enjoy your posts. Your photos are quite tranquil. I remember some years ago riding Amtrack through the Sierras in early April. It felt much like a winter wonderland; all the magic and majesty surrounding us in our observation car.
We live in Florida and spent a quiet NYE, although we did hear fireworks at midnight. I was in bed by then, so it was more of a disruption to my sleep than a reminder that 2021 had begun.
Happy New Year!
Hi Suzanne, it’s nice to meet you! Thank you so much for your comment and visit! I can’t tell you how blessed we feel to be here in this beautiful place. I still pinch myself when I wake up to this view to make sure it’s real!
I wonder if my Mom had fireworks in her neighborhood? She too is in FL. I hope to see her this year.
I wish you a Happy New Year as well! 😀✨
I’ve always wanted to try snowshoeing, but I guess I’ll have to wait. 🙂 I’ve cross-country skied but again, not recently. There wasn’t usually enough snow that often in Chicago either.
My husband was up until midnight on NYE, but I went to bed at my usual time. However, there were lots and lots of fireworks and firecrackers going off and I ended up waking up several times before and just after midnight. I knew that there would be a lot of them, but I feel bad for people with dogs or with PTSD. This is the first place we’ve been where there were so many.
Your NYD good luck meal sounds delish. If it seems the luck doesn’t make it all year, drat! You’ll have to fix it again. 🙂
janet
Well, I wish things were better with the dreaded virus so you and Hubby could come visit and we could go snowshoeing together! That would be so fun. Plus both husbands are cyclists so he’d need to bring his bike too. He-Man stayed up but I have to admit I’ve been hitting the sack early this winter watching movies on my Kindle and falling asleep.
Great idea about having the meal again if my luck starts to change. It might work. 😀
Your new house is in a truly wonderful place as the just as beautiful pictures show! Despite having a fireworks ban this year, we did have some blasts in the village over the fields of my friends place where I spend New Years eve. It was misty though, so we didn’t see anything, just heard the strange rumble from afar. Anyway – if the coming year will be as bright as your images, it will be a good one. I wish you a happy New Year Deborah!
Those rebels! 😀✨ The mist sounds neat though. I hope this year is way better than last year for us all.
Thanks so much for the lovely comment, Peter. Happy New Year to you as well!
Such beautiful photos Deborah. Happy New Year.
Thank you, Cheryl! Happy New Year to you and your family as well! xx
Thanks.
😀
Beautiful shots, Deborah. I’m sure adding anything German could help. Of course, we could blame the brats for 2020. 😁
LOL! Thank you, John!
😊
Thanks, and a Happy New Year to you, too,
Pit
Happy New Year to you and Mary as well, Pit! 😀
