Wild Wednesday 35/52 After Dark Plus 1

This image is one I made last month while hanging out with girl-friends in the Eastern Sierras.  One of the ladies brought lights to light up the old ranch cabin, and do a bit of light painting.

I climbed into the cabin through a back window opening to put some little lights in the stone fireplace. The floor boards in the front room didn’t look strong enough to hold me, but the there was a good solid beam leading out the side door that I used to get out, and go back in later to collect the little lights from the fireplace.  The worst part was putting my hand in a spider’s web to place the lights in there, and again to get the lights out! EWWW!  That was my part. The other ladies placed  more lights around the house.

The smoke from the then newly burning Ferguson Fire was already filling the sky and lent some color to the clouds, and later there was lightning.  Cloud to Cloud lightning. That’s only kind we tend to see here.  That red/orange lighted part to the right of the cabin in the sky is the lightning.

I’ve been sitting on some news for what seems like forever… Baby Girl and the Handsome Surveyor are expecting!  They finally went public with the news so, I can share it too. Finally!  Here’s their Baby Announcement.  Isn’t it cute!

Haakma Baby Announcement

She’s due mid February 2019, and we have 3 more weeks to wait before they find out if it’s a boy or a girl.   #1 Grandson isn’t so sure he wants a baby brother or sister yet. 😊

Everything is going well, and the baby is looking and growing just as it should at this stage.  We’re pretty excited.

There must be something in the air. My niece is expecting too. She also just announced it to the public. She’s due a month after Baby Girl.   She is only 7 months older than Baby Girl, and now these babies will be close in age too.

I got behind reading emails, and blogs over the week-end but, I’ll catch up.

I hope you all are having a good week, and you have a great week-end. It’s one of the last ones of Summer! Can you believe it’s already going to be September?  This year is flying by!

  1. Oh my!! Wow!! On both fronts!! That image is stunning Deborah. And congrats to Baby Girl and the Handsome Surveyor! You all must be SO excited! Their announcement is just adorable. 🙂

  2. First, congratulations all around!

That light photo is fantastic! Soooo beautiful! I can’t even begin to tell you how joyful that much beauty in one place makes me. As far as I’m concerned, it was well worth your Extreme Photography exploits, crawling through windows, on beams, and into and out of spiderwebs! Thank you SO MUCH for sharing!

    1. LOL! Thank you so much for enjoying the image, and post so well! You made my day! It was a long day getting home from the southern end of the Eastern Sierras today. This put a smile on my face, and erased all that traffic stress! xx

  3. Awesome capture, so cool and spooky!!!! I for sure would have passed out if my hand went in a spider web. 😉 Big congrats on the upcoming new arrival, Grandma! The announcement is so cute!

  4. Congratulations! It’s so nice when family babies come around the same time. I have such fond memories of my close-in-age cousins ❤ And my son and my nephew are all grown up and still thick as thieves, too. So nice.
That cabin is inviting me to get away from the city. Oh, I'm envious! Right now, just overcome with envy! Enjoy it extra for me, especially the twinkly lights! 😀 Great shares today!

  5. Congratulations to all the expecting parents (and grandparents), but if comes from something in the air, keep that air in California and away from me!!! Love the photo, BTW.

  6. The cabin looks very inviting with the light shining from the window, and the litening is quite dramatic. Congrats on your exciting news, love the cute baby notice

  7. Well, that’s nice news from a well kept secret; congrats! Now I understand why Baby Girl keeps teasing you about eloping. Is that the cabin at Spring River? Lighting up the cabin looks great but the lightning capture in the comp is really the gem.

  8. I was totally enthralled with what you and your friends did to capture that amazing shot. Then came the great news and that awesome announcement. Creativity definitely runs in the family. That is the best I’ve seen – ever. So much more fun to come. 🙂

    1. Thank you so much Judy! Their announcement is cute, creative, and fits them so well. She played softball from the age of 5 through jr. college, and coaches it so if you know them it’s perfect.

  9. Deborah… that photo took my breath away. What a creative masterpiece! And double ewww! about the spider web.
Oh, congratulations! I love their announcement. Now you must decide what your “grandma name” will be. 😀 Great big hug!

  10. Congratulations to Baby Girl, your niece and everyone in the families. I like the lighting in the cabin. Sounds like some fun work (not spider web) to get the right effect. Proving again that great photographers work hard for their images.

    1. Thank you so much Dan! It was a fun night, and I think we’re all happy with the shots we made, and how the lights worked out.

I found out while camping this past week-end that on a Full Moon lit night the little lights don’t work as well as they do when there’s no moon, so I’ll have to keep that in mind on future night photo shoots.

I liked this effect so well I have purchased my own lights to have on hand.

  11. Wow! Your photo looks so cool! 😃 Love how the lights add so much to it. I agree with you about spider webs…🕸🕷
Congrats on being a grandma for baby #2! What a cute announcement!! 👶💗💙

    1. Thank you so much Jill! I shudder to think about how that web felt when I stuck my hand in to place the light. EWWW!

We’re excited. I think their announcement is so cute, and it fits them both so well. They both are involved with softball so it works.

  12. I really appreciate the way you take the time to set up this type of shot (I’ve seen you do it before). It makes for a unique and artistic image. As an aside, the names you give your family members make me LOL!

    1. Thank you so much Pam! It’s a lot of fun, and I love night photography.

The online nicknames started out as a way of protecting my family because they don’t have much of an online presence, and Baby Girl was still a minor when I began my online presence. The nicknames have stuck, and they fit them well. 🙂

Baby Girl is my youngest and only 5’3″, while Big Baby Boy my oldest is 6’2″. At home his friends call him Johnny Bravo.
He-Man is, well…He-Man, and my hero.

Thankfully The Handsome Surveyor, and The Dark Haired Beauty like the online names I’ve given to them. 😉

    1. Oh my gosh what a lovely brood they’ll have with a nice round number too!
I am thrilled that our little family is growing.
Congratulations to your son, his family, and you guys too!

The rabbit… seems a fitting nick name with his large family. 😜

    1. Isn’t it neat. It can be tricky to highlight with external lights only the bits and bobs you want to, but it is a lot fun, and when it comes out the way you envisioned it it’s a neat feeling.

I’m glad you like the image and phrase Paul! Thank you so much for the comment.
