Last week-end myself, and friends Dali, and Gordon went birding with one of my favorite Meet-up groups to do some birding in Central Valley California. We stopped at two wildlife refuges and while at Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge we spotted this Juvenile Bald Eagle surveying the land. The day started off pretty foggy, but cleared up to overcast, with patches of blue sky in the late afternoon. When I made this image the sky was still gray.
I think this one is a 3 year old.

Awsome pics.✌
Thank you so much Amal!
Sure thing
Do stop by to have a glance on my take to the world😇✌
A young prince!
Indeed! 🙂 Thank you so much for the visit and comment.
I think the gray sky adds so much to this picture. You are so talented!
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a juvenile. How can you tell it’s age? Love how speckled he is! Great shot, Deborah!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
The first and second year’s don’t have much white in the chest or crown and their feet aren’t yellow in their earliest years. By year 3 their feet are yellow and they have more white in their crowns and chest.
By age 4 they look more like an Adult Bald Eagle with much more white in their tail, crown/head and their feet/legs and beak are more yellow.
I’ve been following Bald Eagles for a number of years now so have gotten to know how they look at different ages. I’m really excited to know that I could pass a test on this info actually. It’s been hard won knowledge so more precious to me. 🙂
Thank you Deborah! I appreciate you sharing your knowledge with me. 😃
MP! 🙂
Deborah, just to let you know I went back and saw my Jan. 5th comment on “Here Kitty, Kitty” held a compliment about your beautiful bridge photo header! Also, about the cougar. . . xo 💖
I am still following you but my comments today must be in awaiting approval somewhere. (?)
I wonder if I somehow missed your comment on the 5th?
Thank you so much for the comment today! I got really behind with the holidays, and when the week-end rolls around I’m usually out with my camera so, get behind again. I will catch up! 🙂
Oh, how wonderful to have friends to share the experience “live!” It is nice of you to show us the photograph of this “youngster eagle!” Thank you, Deborah. xo 💐
Thank you so much Robin! I’m am truly blessed to have wonderful birding friends and companions. xx
It had to be exciting to see a bald eagle with your own eyes, Deborah. You captured a lovely pose despite the gray sky. Well done. Hugs on the wing!
Thank you so much Teagan! I’m glad you like the Eagle. Hugs right back at ya! xx
Stunning Deborah! Thanks for sharing with us
Thank you so much Lynn!
Wow. Beautiful, Deborah
Thank you very much John!
Gorgeous juvenile watching out over his territory! 🙂
Hey Deborah, I am pulling my hair out looking at all the WP themes. ARGH! What is the name of the one you’re using now? My theme is no longer supported, and I’m worried on losing data, etc. Thanks!
Thank you so much Donna!
I think it’s called Twenty Sixteen or something like that. Best of luck finding one you like. It’s not an easy move is it?
No! lol
Forgot to say…… Thank you Deborah! 🙂
You’re very welcome! I hope you find a theme you like and the transition is an easy one! xx
Seeing is believing, but you have to make sure you’re not viewing through the tinted windshield! 😉
ROFL!!! It’s funny now isn’t it.😂
I know you got several great shots of it once I suggested opening the door.
I hope we can get out there once more this winter.
I agree…he does look like he has an attitude. Great capture Deborah! 🙂
Thank you so much Amy!
so majestic!
They are aren’t they. It’s exciting to see them.
Beautiful capture. He seems to have a little bit of teenage attitude working for him. A bad-boy look 🙂
LOL! I like that though about him having a “bad-boy” look. 🙂
Thanks Dan. I wish the lighting was better, but whadda gonna do?
You’re lucky the fog burned off in time. It’s a great photo.
🙂 Thanks Dan!
Great photo!
Thank you so much!
You are welcome!
The limb and eagle stand out nicely against the gray.
Thank you so much Camie!
