Beautiful capture Deborah. Many of us Aussie birders would love to see these very unique and amazing birds which we do not have. There wing speed is remarkable. Our sunbird is similar but you have so many species of hummers. 😊

Thank you so much, Ashley! I feel the same way about so many of the birds you have that we don’t.

Great picture Deborah! I also like the name Hummingburd for this, well, humming bird. In Dutch is’t called : Kolibrie, pronounced: koh-lee-bree. Its sounds a bit like a song. 🙂

That’s a pretty name for them. In French you may know it’s Colibri or Oiseau-mouche. Your spelling and the French is quite similar! Thank you so much, Peter!

Oiseau-mouche, flybird, also a good name! 🙂

It is apt but, not nearly as pretty sounding. 😊

I smiled at your cautious identification. You did better than I would have; ‘hummingbird’ would have been the extent of my knowledge.

😊 It’s tricky to tell the immature males from Females sometimes late fall might be easier to tell but, I made this image in late summer.
