LOL! That’s right! I’m looking forward to seeing ducklings, and goslings. I think gooslings is a better name for them though. Definitely a word with more fun anyway. 😊

Beautifully captured, Deborah!! I always love the iridescent green of a male Mallard. I think I’ve seen Mergansers before, but I can’t be sure. He sure is striking as well. I hope you had a wonderful Valentine’s Day. (I tried to comment and got an error, so if I double post..so sorry 🙂 )

Great lighting on the drake’s head, Deborah. And always a treat to see the hooded mergansers.

Thank you so much, Jet! For some reason you’re not coming into my email anymore. I had to subscribe to your posts again when I went to see what was going on. I hope that fixed it. I’ve been having issues with comments for weeks now.

I, too, have had many recent problems with comments, Deborah. Thanks for hanging in there with me, I so enjoy your posts and your visits here.. In fact yesterday I wrote a comment on yours three times, finally I got one to stick. Cheers and smiles to you.

Mallard couples are especially fun to watch, and your photos of both species are appealing. I’ve been lucky enough to have a cardinal couple hanging around. They’re not only paired, but in the case of the male, Valentine’s Day red.

How wonderful that sounds to see a male Cardinal in Valentine’s Red at your house! I’ve only seen a male Cardinal twice and the female only once.

That really surprises me. They’re so common here I probably don’t give them nearly the attention they deserve — although I do make sure they have plenty of sunflower seeds to feast one. Last year, there was a nest nearby, and I got to see juveniles, too.

When they head west past the Rockies they turn south. We don’t get them here in this part of the west. The only red birds we have here are the House, Purple, and Cassin’s Finches, and the woodpeckers, Northern Flicker, and the Red-bellied Sapsucker. I’m very thankful for those! Here in NV we also get the Red-headed Woodpecker but, I’ve only seen it once and it wasn’t a good look just a peek really.
