Gorgeous! I love Mono Lake, and your photo makes me want to go back.

Oh, you should! The lake is so high! I was told by someone at the Mono Basin Committee the lake is only 8 cubic feet short of its healthy height. I think that’s the height they’ll keep it going forward trying to balance the health of the lake and the habitat for the birds, brine shrimp, brine flies, and sending water to SoCAL. Navy Beach is nearly under water now. I wasn’t able to shoot where I normally would have been. I need waders now to be in that spot.

I didn’t have a clue where Mono Lake was, but now I do. What a wonderful spot to camp and explore, and what a beautiful sunset. Is that one of the tufa towers in your photo?

Yes, that’s one of the Tufa towers, and the rock in the front is a Tufa as well. It’s a neat place in fact that whole corridor of I395 is full of great spots to see.

Good picture, what with the sunburst and clouds.
Just days ago I was thinking about Mono Lake and even looked at a map to remind myself where it is. I was there only once, about 40 years ago. You’ve given me an incentive to go back.

Thank you so much, Steve! You should see it again if you can. Come in June when the wildflowers are popping up too.

Indeed, the sunburst is enchanting. Not sure where I heard this, but it reminds me of the saying about it being almost impossible to watch a sunset and not dream…
