What a composite: the barn, the tree, that sky, and what appears to be a crop past its prime in the distance. And yet so much green, especially the green clinging to the barn — they probably are old friends.

I wonder sometimes if it’s just the vines and trees clinging to old barns and buildings if that’s the only holding it up.
I was so happy to see how green it was in OH at that time of year. Green makes me happy. There are so many trees in OH! I loved it.

I love the natural weathering of both the tree and the barn: two forms of natural wood subject to the same forces.

Like my reply to Ally, I saw one yesterday but it would take extra effort to stop and take photos, the same way you stopped and took photos of the church in the snow. I like the dramatic sky. Great capture, Deborah!

I actually saw this barn the day before so did a wee bit of planning ahead so we could slow down and take the little one lane turn off the highway to this barn. It required a Y turn with ditches on both sides of the little dirt road, and then inching the rental car out of the frame so I could make the image I wanted. It’s a great barn. I’m so glad He-man was all in for the little side stop. 😊

Surprisingly, our modern word barn is a coalesced form of Old English berærn, a combination of bere, meaning barley, and ærn, meaning house. A barn was originally a structure to store barley.

That’s interesting. We use silos and bays for storage now-a-days. I always thought barns were used as animal shelter then later tools and equipment shelter as well.

Things evolve, and so do words. Think about the glove compartment in a car: how many people keep gloves in there now?

I saw it the day before so the next day I let He-Man know ahead of time we’d be pulling over for me to get a photo of the barn. 😊
