Here are several images of things that have caught my eye since my last post. Oh, and I bought a new lens so, I’ve been using it exclusively to make sure it’s a good copy. The last time I took my 300mm lens out it was hunting an awful lot…like it was doing many years ago when the Auto-Focus motor was going out which did quit working soon after. I had it repaired/replaced then, but the lens is so old now it’s not worth repairing so it has become a bookend and, I upgraded to a newer, longer lens.

So, what do you think…the lens looks like a keeper? I love that it doesn’t weight a ton. It’s a little lighter than the 300mm it’s replaced!
#1 Grandson is here. He’s been here just over a week. We’ve been to the lake several times do some kayaking. We’re not sure how much longer he’s staying. He says another week. We’ll see. I think he’ll be missing his mom and littlest too much before then, but he can stay as long as he likes. 😍
I hope your week is going well, and your slide into the week-end is smooth and easy.

The photo quality looks really good. I love the variety of images.

Isn’t it great getting a new lens?! This lens looks like a super nice lens, graduations on new toy to play with! Between the Nikon D810 and the Nikkor 500mm Pf-E, I’ll be looking forward to some super nice images from you, just like the ones above. 😀👍

Well, yes and no. I was saving for a new camera, but the lens this one replaced is one I like to use when I’m not feeling the love for my Fuji telephoto lens, and I just love primes. So, yes, I’m thrilled to have the lens, but it’s not a purchase I was planning on having to do this soon!
Thanks so much, John!

Love all these shots, and congrats on the new lens! Always fun to get new equipment. 🙂 Even more fun is having a blast with the grandson, how great he’s doing so well on his own without Mom and Dad. I know how that goes on my side too! They are growing up too fast, aren’t they??!!! Enjoy, Deborah!

Wonderful captures of wildlife ‘this and that’! We are seeing all kinds of baby wildlife this and that. Right out the back window we have a ground squirrel playground. We counted 9 babies who get braver and braver each day!

Thank you so much, Denise! We have 4 baby/juvenile ground squirrels that have ruined my newly planted flowers, and succulents. They’re cute but destructive. I hope yours aren’t!

Everything was already destroyed in my perennial garden by their ancestors! Nowa ground squirrel playground!

Beautiful captures Deborah, jumping to a 500 mm is a big move, I stay 400 as my hand is not steady enough for anything larger and I don’t like toting a monopod. Love the way you positioned the lizard and hummingbird, the lizard like it’s smiling 😊

Thank you so much, Ashley! Thankfully, Nikon is making their lenses lighter with new glass elements, and less metal on the body. I can handhold this lens, and the VR=Vibration reduction is awesome. My Fuji lens is a 100-400mm but, I’ve always thought the sharpness was lacking compared to my 300mm prime. Since I’m a wide angle or long view gal primes suit me well.

Thumbs up on the new lens! The photos are wonderful, and if the lens is easier to use and lighter, then it’s a win-win. I’m afraid to ask what a bee wasp is…😳

Thank you so much, Jennie! A wasp that acts like a bee I think. 🤷♀️

Wonderful photos – keep the lens, and frame the hummingbird or use it as a screen saver. I lOVE it! I’m so glad your grandson is having a good visit. I loved the photo of him in the kayak.

Happy 500mm. In the photographs posted at this size the subjects look sharp, and what you’ve written implies that that holds true at the larger original size, too.

Tack sharp! Good results from that new toy! Wish I could find some place to go birding. Too bad you missed the whale action on the coast in my backyard neighborhood; they’re less frequent in the past few days but hoping for a return if the food source returns!

Thank you so much, Gordon! Seeing the whales would be awesome. It’s been years since I went whale watching. It won’t be long before we have our annual birding trip!
In the meantime have you been down to Palo Alto and Mountain View’s birding spots? Email me if you need to know exactly where to go.

I know the Shoreline location but not sure where in Palo Alto you’re referring to.

Oh, that lens is a keeper for sure. I’m glad you have it because you find the best things to focus on. I didn’t expect to find lizards in your area. That’s a great shot. The photo of the hummingbird is stunning. I love seeing the detail in the wings. Thanks for sharing. I’m looking forward to more.

Thank you so much, Dan! OM, Gosh, there are so many lizards and ground squirrels this year! Their parents must have known by our heavy winter that food would be plentiful and had oodles of babies!! The squirrels have destroyed my new flowers so I’m not happy with them, but the lizards are entertaining as they run through the yard often times stopping to show me how fit they are by doing pushups. 😂The surprising thing…so many have lost their tails!

Is the tail loss due to predators?
