I like cattails even when they get all crazy and fluffy. I always think of it as organized chaos.

I’ve also always liked this bit of Mary Oliver’s poem regarding cattails,
“the long tapers
of cattails
are bursting and floating away over
the blue shoulders
of the ponds,
and every pond,
no matter what its
name is, is
nameless now.”
From her poem- In Blackwater Woods.
Happy Hump Day! I hope your week is going well.

The photo and poem are a perfect blend. Lovely!
Thank you so much, Jennie!
You’re welcome, Deborah!
😀
I like your composition, and your choice of depth of field works really well too!
Thank you so much, Denise! I wish I could have opened up my aperture more to really blur the background, but I was as open as I could get with that long lens.
I love the poem and the image. Nice composition and lighting.
Thank you, Robert!
Lovely photo, Deborah and verse!
Thank you! 😀
Beautiful photo, they really do look like cat’s tails in their fuzzy state… And I like the poetry you shared. ❤️
Thank you so much, Jill! 🥰
I like both photo and poem. I like Mary Oliver’s poetry a lot but that’s partly because she writes about the outdoors so much. 😉
Thank you, Janet! It’s why she’s my favorite poet.
Love the way you captured and posted the photo Deborah, the fuzzy-ness of the background and the fluffy-ness of the seed head. Love the poem it says so much in so few words.
Thank you so much, Ashley! Mary Oliver is like that with her poems…a lot said in a few words. 😀
Deborah – a perfect poem/photo duet. I share you love of Mary Oliver’s poetry. I was reading how she, like you, would go for long walks. Once, when she forget to take along her pen, she hid pencils in the tress so she would never again be left without a something to write down her thoughts. Thank you for a lovely morning reflection!
Thank you so much, Rebecca! I didn’t know that about Mary Oliver!! That was a great idea of hiding pencils assuming she always had paper with her!
I was wondering about that myself! Hmmmm.
😀
Super photo, Deborah. A terrific poem as well.
Thank you so much, John!
Nice – photo and words. It makes for a better Wednesday for sure. 🙂
Thank you, Judy! Has it gotten really cold there? Your IG images of your beach views have been so pretty.
The hues of browns are gorgeous, Deborah! Great poem too!!
A beautiful photo and poem to go with. Love the title of this post, *whatever* is one of my favorite words anymore!
Thank you so much, Ally! I chose this title theme for Wednesday’s I want to post but, don’t want to be wordless, but I know what you mean! If I’m using “whatever” I’m saying “meh”. 😀
Normally I would go with thinly organized chaos. Today it would be fluffily organized chaos. Love those cattails Deborah.
LOL! Thank you, John! I like fluffy organized chaos.
We call them Reedmace, what a boring name, Cattails is much nicer. Also called, wrongly, Bullrush a completely different plant.
That’s interesting! I didn’t know you called them something different! Thanks for that tidbit, Brian!
Oh! What a marvellous poem. And when you say that you think of it as organised c… I thought you’d say crime. 😀 Organised chaos is an excellent description.
🤣 Mary Oliver is my favorite poet. She writes what I feel- she wrote mostly about nature.
Thank you so much, Manja!
Lovely images and poem excerpt, Deborah. I always think of cattails as Nature’s corndogs.🤦♀️😂
They do look like them though! 🤣 Thank you so much, Cheryl!
